Car stolen, please call if you see it
Last night someone stole my '84 Celica GT from my driveway. It is silver on blue and has a Mahi Mahi sticker and an Ifish sticker on the glass of the hatchback.
I think the car is worth maybe $500 but it is what I drive so I want it back. If you spot this car ....let me know. The ticket and fine that is the customary penalty for GTA is not a deterrent IMHO.
Call the man and then call me. I want this guy bad.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Pilar - I'd edit this post  but don't have the empowerment. Sorry to here it, does make you wanna do some bodily harm or ??? doesn't it.
Some day I have to tell you the story of my stolen volkswagen and the kid who called me trying to get a title to it.
Wasn't the smartest thing he or I ever did. I didn't go to jail but it was close.
PS- 100:1 it was joy riders, it's parked somewhere probably not to far from your house.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Yeah Pilar!
That's a big ten-4 on the Grand Theft Auto.
I'll keep an eye out for it. Keep us posted on the situation. I wouldn't want anything bad to "accidently" happen to the wrong person. Wikn wink
I'm sorry man, but I just can't get over it! This person must not know you or they are not the sharpest tool in the shed, because no one in their right mind would ever do this to you if they knew you. You're one of the most generous people I know.
Oddly enough, the same exact thing happened to me when I first moved into my neighborhood. Initiation apperently...They used a toyota key to open and start it. I wonder what went through their minds as they rummaged through my stuff inside. "Hmmmm... let's see here.. We have an empty holster mounted behind the seat, a foot long stainless steel icepick stuck in the seat, a box of 3 1/2" 12 ga. shells on the seat, all sorts of empty 9mm casings all over the floor and speedloader for a 44mag in the glove box." What really made me mad was the fishing stuff they stold. Luckily, Insurance paid for all of it because it was stolen from my property and covered by my homeowners insurance. Please tell me you have insurance......
A homeowner up in the West Hills called the police the next morning when he discovered his nicer vehicle was missing and my old junker 88-toyota was in it's place minus the goodies of course.
Still. the whole feeling of being violated is just terrible. I don't know about you, but that's the whole reason I only buy junkers.
Let me know if there's any thing else I can do.
You know? May be you should take that person out "fishing." Yeah..... That's the ticket "f-i-s-h-i-n-g."
I feel for ya man,
Ragnar

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Sorry to hear about this John. I see this kind of garbage nearly every day in my business. Punks out for thrill or they are too cheap to buy parts. They prefer the midnight auto supply.
Being that they stole that old of a car they most likely were out having a joy ride. I get mad when people steel from me and it is good to vent like you did. However jail time for yourself is not the answer.

Not likely they were looking for a joyride. Not considering the other vehicles on the street they had to choose from. There were much easier targets that would have made for a much more "joyous" ride.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Hey there:
One of my co-workers had a stolen car land in his living room this morning. I didn't get a description, but I hope it is not your auto. I was told that the driver got away on foot.
I hope that you get your vehicle back with as little damage as possible.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
ZZZZzzzzzz - Wow! Wouldn't that just be too strange if it was Pilar's car? Although it hadn't been reported stolen until this morning.
Everyone: Please be sure to secure your vehicles. Pilar's insurance agent is getting 10-15 calls a DAY with reports of stolen vehicles. He said that MOST are never recovered. Something seems to be afoot here.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Sadly, unless you use a very large chain to secure your car to a very large tree, there is very little you can do to keep your car from being stolen, if the thief wants it bad enough. Neither a locked door or the Club are effective deterrents.

I saw your car at lunch time,  I took a quick photo before they hauled it off, though you cant see the ifish sticker at this angle
Just kidding John, I hope you get it back in good shape. If you find the guy still behind the wheel, dont kill him, he isnt worth the skin on your knuckles. You can replace the ifish sticker, and the rest is just metal, plastic, glass.

Pilar,
I have many friends/acquaintances in the Celica and early Supra world. I drive an 84 CelicaSupra myself. If anyone in Oregon is posting parts or a parts car availability for sale around here I'll inquire discreetly and let you know.
That sucks!

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Not to minimize your loss or anything, Pilar, but isn't this at least partly why you drive a 19-year-old Toyota in the first place? Imagine instead it was a 2003 Toyota SUV worth $30,000 and not an old car worth maybe $500 that many people would leave at roadside and walk away when it breaks down next time anyhow. Cheer up...things could be worse.
(so he cheered up and sure enough, things got worse)

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Bummer. :depressed: Older Toyotas are an easy swipe. I think everybody knows about the 70's vintage Corollas where anybody with 5 or 6 Toyota keys could steal about any Corolla. A friend of my sister's had 76 Corolla, and to make matters worse she lived downtown. I think it was stolen something like 8 times before she bought a Club. Never got stolen again. Might think about that if you get your Celica back.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Wrong! Well in most cases anyways. No disrespect Ocean Blue but unless Pilar had some spendy wheels on his $500 ride there are three basic reasons why his rig got stolen.
1, One of the easiest rigs in the world to break into and be off and running in less than one minute. No key required. One slide hammer with set screw pulls the cylinder. Screwdriver starts car and release column lock.
2, Easy to take off parts though your local midnight auto supplier. And pretty easy to abandone.
3, Why walk home when there is a free ride home. Worst you could get is a ticket for stealing a car now days. No biggy.
Although tongue and check and simplified they are all true. The vehicle has no tangible resale value through illegitmate channels. As mentioned though, the parts if it is a supra are valuable such as fenders, hood, doors and especially the retractable headlamps. Still, lots of risk for little gain.
John, I still hope they fine your baby. Unfortunatly, it ain't the old day where ya just shoot horse thieves any more. Ya gotta provide three squares and a room for the night and most likely all they will get is a ticket to wipe their hindside with.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
C&E - The officer who took the report concurred. If you look at everything surrounding the case, it adds up to the likelihood that someone targeted it for parts. I can fill you in via email if you're interested, but I hesitate to post it on the internet.
The good news is that we might actually be close to finding the SOB who stole it. I'm grateful that criminals are so stupid.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Okay Ocean Blue. Just commenting from my side of the street as a shop owner. I see tons of this stuff all the time. All be it I truthfully don't see and 84 supra very often but I do see one or two thefts a week roll through my shop.
Like you I am glad that these poeple are stupid. Hope they catch him and give him a ticket. Then maybe John can take him out for a drink of Willamette water.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Had my old toyota 4-runner stolen a couple of months ago. Got it back 3 days later. Slight damage where they tried to remove the cd player with the wrong tools. This is the second time the truck has been stolen. Very easy to steal older toyota vehicles. My old 4runner is in premo shape, they didnt want it for parts, they used it to drive around and sleep in! Hope you get your car back soon Pilar.

Pull the coil wire in your car when you have it parked. If it will not start, they cant take it.
Wire a kill switch into it,
just some thoughts....

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Update ... The car has been recovered and is driveable if not a little worse for wear.
In the last week I have found several abandoned vehicles in my neighborhood as I searched for my car. These have been reported to PDX police and they were not terribly interested. The funny thing is the model and age of the cars I found are very close to mine. Most of them were packed full of junk car parts and had been stripped.
My car was found by the police in a trailer park off 82nd ave. The damage is mostly to the dashboard where the crank junkies tried to pry out one of the dashboard mounted speakers. They got the cassette deck (a 10 yr old alpine worth $10) too and destroyed much of the wiring and dashboard doing so.
I drive an old beater because I do not want a thief magnet in my driveway. If you look at the old pickup you will see that there is a gaping hole in the dashboard where the stereo 8 track was stolen 15 yrs ago. No one has bothered my old truck ever since. I do not work like a dog just to buy stuff for the crank junkies to steal and sell for a bag of methamphetamine at $0.01 on the dollar.
The hole in the toyota dash will remain there as theif repellent.
Oh and BTW a 2" forged chain wrapped around the telephone pole in my front yard and locked to the frame of the truck is keeping the old truck home at night.
If they want another crack (or crank) at the Celica they will have to come into my abode to get it. I'm guessing here but the last sound anyone stupid enough to break into my house will hear will be the sound of the Louisville slugger whistling through the air right before the lights go out forever and Darwin claims another worthless piece of crap that is too stupid to be allowed to reproduce. Yes, officer he was threatening me with a knife ... I was frightened so I carked him out.
Thank you all for your responses. If you are wearing raggy clothes, weigh less than 120 pounds and ride a bicycle at 3 am with a bunch of junk strapped on to it ...
Stay the hell out of my hood. Or you might need a proctologist to get that bike extracted from ... well, you know. No I don't have any spare money and the cigarettes I buy come 20 in a pack, there were no spares in the pack.
Why don't you get a job???
We need to make Portland a living hell for these guys. They are here because we feel sorry for them and feed them and make them into victims. They are parasites and should be treated as such. Think about that before you give anything to the homeless and the drug crazed that beg for money everywhere you look. If we treat them like they are not welcome here, maybe they will go eleswhere.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Pilar-
Glad to hear you got your car back. I know exactly how you feel about all the low life tweekers running around. We have had a couple cars broken into at my house in the last year and a mountain bike I just got for hunting was stolen last week.
There's 2 meth houses in my neighborhood and the cops seem almost powerless to do anything about it. Everybody knows about and the residents are hauled off from time to time but they never get shut down. If I catch one of these ******** riding my bike I will probably be the one in jail for kicking in whats left of their teeth.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
As far as Meth houses go .. I am not advocating that you break the law ... but remember that fire is mother natures way of cleaning up a mess.
I have challenged these low lifes as they patrol my dead end street when I am home during the day. The response is always something like
"Uh, hey man, you got any bottles or cans, can you help me out?"
This said as the guy is letting himself into a neighbors back yard to root through my neighbors garbage cans.
OutdoorSpecOps, no, but I know where the car was found. A run down trailer park on 82nd on the southeast 7400 block. This place is tweeker heaven. Many pawn shops not a block away. Few of the residents weigh more than 120 lbs or have all of their teeth. And very few cars, lots of bikes with trailers and baskets to haul away 'found' things.
When the first forged checks showed up the day after the theft, the cop was at my house talking to someone who had accepted and paid one of the forged checks. This guy was a tweeker too. The cop had a description, name and address for the forger but told me that they would do little else unless I called them while the guy was actually commiting a crime.
???? ???? When did crimes against personal property start getting so low a priority?

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
I wish Oregon would follow Texas law in being able to shot someone on your property steeling something. We can only do so if they are in your home not garage unless its attached, and you feel your life is threttened. If we had Texas law I would leave stuff out every night. Would probly be as much fun as Sagerat hunting. Thieves have to suffer harsher punishment, but the judishal(sp) system wounld not want that they would lose a lot of tax dollars and a loss of jobs. We might have to take matters in our own hands. To bad we don't have gaters to feed the scum to.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
We need to make Portland a living hell for these guys. They are here because we feel sorry for them and feed them and make them into victims. They are parasites and should be treated as such. Think about that before you give anything to the homeless and the drug crazed that beg for money everywhere you look. If we treat them like they are not welcome here, maybe they will go eleswhere. WOW! Well Said.
I know the Trailer Park in question. I worked that district for about 6 years. Always has had a huge problem with stolen cars, of course, back then they actually went ot jail for the night. (usually). It still didn't have that much af an effect on the stolen rate. When the Auto Thft Task Force started targeting the chronic thieves AND they were prosecuted vigorously AND the judge was not a weenie AND actually imposed meaningful sentences, the problem lessened quite a bit. Of course we knew exactly when they got out though because that particular crooks' favorite cars started showing up on the hot sheet again.
Maybe someday we'll have prosecution and sentencing again.............

Pilar, glad to hear you got your car back.
You should start a new religion with a new method for "baptizing" these scum for people in the river.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
Seems to me that the car has replaced the horse of the years gone by. Now it only seems right that the applicable laws would transfer over to the new mode of transportation (or work horse).
I couldn't find anything in Oregon's codes and statutes about horse theives, but Florida had a good idea.
Short trial and death at the end of a rope. Gotta admit it would sure put an end to 'joy rides'.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I'm seeing an increase in those types in my 'hood. The other day I was getting into my pickup and one of the two-wheeled miscreants rode up and tried to panhandle $4 "for gas to take my old lady to the doctor." OK, you're on a bike, but you need gas?
I was in a bit of a hurry and a less-than-cheery mood, so I told him that I would give him $10 if he left the neighborhood immediately and never came back- EVER. He didn't take me up on it, and I told him he didn't look like the type to honor the deal anyway. He was rather indignant.
Before I drove off, I told him if anything was missing from my house or yard I was going to be looking for him, and him alone, and I wasn't going to bother the cops with it.
Haven't seen him since, and I hope it stays that way.

Re: Car stolen, please call if you see it
I have an 80 lb theft deterrent system. Gotta love chessies, I got an ithica featherweight and an 870 stolen out of my house, I brought my dog down the next day.. About 2 weeks later the dog goes on stealth silent mode out of my room about 2:30 in the morning. Next thing I heard was screaming and growling. By the time I found my other gun and was headed for the door the would be intruder was gone. But he did leave some blood, a shoe, a chunk of jeans, between my back door and the driveway. Along with one very ****ed off chessie. He likes me and other people who aren't in his yard or house. He also loves little kids, he just knows who to dislike.
