Default Viva Las Vegas

Off I go--
I'll be answering a limited amount of e mail.
Back on Thursday or so...

I'll check in and see how you guys are doing. Please don't post pictures of huge salmon while I'm gone... I'll get really jealous!

Jen

Hi from Jennie.

My room is great, everything went smoothly for our flight and check in! Wow!

Anyway, the kids and I are thinking about dinner. We called the Tournament of Kings and they are booked, besides being really expensive! Couldn't find any discount coupons either.

So, the Rio? That's what Fishbait said one time... That's a good one, right? Then the Treasure Island thing for an after dinner treat, and on the way home, the fountain at Bellagio.

I hit three white sevens and won 80.00! That's on 5.00! I better quit now, huh?

It's 110 here... hot! Feels SO good to sit down for a bit and have a bottle of water.

I miss my Kilchie... :depressed:

See ya, and I'll check back in a few to see if you guys have dinner ideas.

Jen

I have Hogmaster's post from last years Vegas topic, and I'd like to take the kids to downtown. Is there someplace good to eat down there, too?

Thanks,
J

Jennie,

You've got to try the Buffet at Caesar's Palace!

The Cold Seafood section is to die for. Mountains of Ice Cold shrimp and smoked salmon.

My mouth's watering just thinking about it.

Have a great time. Put it all on Black 13.

Hi Jenn!

The Rio is worth it!

Downtown, the Golden Nugget Buffet may not be the world's best, but it is good and the prices are better than the strip.

Don't quit, parlay it!

Have fun!

Go see EFX at the MGM. Kids show too, one of the best we've seen. Of course there IS Celine Dion too.

I am leaving on Friday. Will you go on the roller coaster with me Thursday Night? I can't find anyone to go with. :depressed:

Of course, I may die of a ruptured aorta, but at least an ifisher will be with me.

Ate at RIO last night... It was like getting let loose at the world's largest food court. The food was slightly better than a food court at the mall, but only slightly. I was so tired, and the 49 minute wait to eat didn't please me, but the kids thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I had a little bit of Mexican food, and a little bit of sushi... and a lot of spinach leaves!
Vegas makes me feel unhealthy, and if someone puts a large bin of greens there, I dive in, thinking it will somehow cleanse me!

Where is a place to eat that resides by a river, where they serve your meal by a babbling brook?

I miss my river.

Jen,

I think I have given you enough heart burn already!!

I am staying at the Mirage but don't get into Vegas until after 10:00.

My impression of that town is much like yours I think........ it is hot, dry, dirty and has way too many less than admiral people. Give me our mountains, trees, rivers and country bumpkins anytime!! Besides, buffet food is buffet food, regardless of how fancy the presentation is.

I am dreading the trip but am looking forward to seeing the show. Was hoping to meet you but would prefer to do so in God's land anyway.

Sorry the Rio didn't live up to expectations.

I think you are on to something though.

The next new theme casino!

Come stay next to the salmon and steelhead filled streams that start at pools that are at the base of cascading waterfalls!

Free flyfishing lessons every morning at 11!

Take a ride in the exciting river run rapid on 6 man rafts handled by our expert oarsmen.

Come see the huge interpetative center where you can walk in the subwater viewing area and see multiple species of fish in their various stages of life!

Come to our "Rain Forest Mall" where every hour on the hour a weather event occurs. From gentle breezes to gale force winds circling above the shops that specialize in outdoor gear and wear.

Stop in at one of our 36 Coffee Shops, or eat at our elegant resturant, "The Ostrich" where venison, buffalo, elk, salmon, halibut, tuna and ling cod are always on the menu.

That's it! Ifishers unite! Let's pool our resources and give Steve Winn a run for it!

Anyone know how well moss transplants?

Then again, I guess we could all just stay home and play games of chance here...

Tired... Ready to come home now. :depressed:

The kids swam until really late. It was 90 degrees past midnight. Record heat here in LV, and I have the afternoon off, but no way can you lay in the sun when it is 116! I am stuck in my room, unless lured out to play the machines, and I am NOT going to do that. Right?

I miss my dog and my new kitty and my chickens and .... Nehalem salmon are in, from what I hear!

The boys and I are going to head to downtown Vegas tonight, I guess. They are at Gameworks today. I bought them an all day pass so that I could go to the show.

I talked with Buzz for a long time, at Luhr Jensen, about the new Xtreme K16s. They are pretty cool, but may not be out in time for Fall Chinook. :depressed:

Spent a bit of time with Gary Loomis talking about Fish First... Met with the Okuma Rep, Randy Woolsey, and he is going to do some neat new contests on ifish to introduce some new reels and rod combos.

Lesseee.... Oh! I am harboring a secret new scent that is supposedly just awesome! It is made by Scientists in Britain and includes REAL pheremones, or however you spell it. I can't WAIT to try it. It will be out in a couple months, and is brought to you by Mustad. It's going to be spendy stuff, but testing has proven it's success.

Pure Fishing is all excited about their new "Gulp" products, and well they should be. They make a new pink molded Gulp product, that is similar to Power Bait, yet outfishes live bait by 18 percent. Can't wait for steelies on this product!

Hmmmmm Lots more to tell, but it will have to wait. Nap time for this girl. play one more night, and home tomorrow. I'm ready. Did I say that I am ready now?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Funny you mention that. I have some and it works good It takes forever for me to get so I am glad it will be available in the US now. If you are talking about the same stuff I have, it comes in small vials and has a very distinct odor to it. I have to keep it in a zip lock bag in the garage fridge. Did I mention it works?????

Got home late last night............ Vegas still sucks. Hot, dirty and slimier than ever. They have decided making it a family destination wasn't working so sex and gambling are in your face more than ever. (as if it ever really changed much........)

Couldn't help but be saddened by the growth and the waste of water I saw flying in and out. God didn't intend for luxurious resorts, golf courses and swimming pools by the gazillions to be in the desert.

Saw some impressive new product and many old friends in the industry. Shimano is redoing most of it's line. Okuma will have a very good looking round reel at a competitive price after the first of the year. Brad has his wee sized warts coming soon, my friends at Lamiglas were busy writing orders the Pure Fishing booth was dead. What more can a guy ask for????

Off to another set of meetings in Portland......

Funny... A Japanese man came up to me and said,
"You Jennie? You Jennie from web page? We from Shimano, we want on web your web!"

I got a kick out of that. Nice man.

Jen

EDIT: By the way, I know what you mean about dirty and slimy. I felt so dirty by the time we left. Seems like lots of lost souls all wandering around, looking desperate. :depressed:
If only they all knew the rush that came from fishing! You know, the rush I got when I won was fun, but somehow didn't feel wholesome and good. It was a weird kind of "lost" rush, and I can see how that kind of thing could get you into a lot of trouble.
I feel so sad for the people who sit in front of those machines and pour 20 after 20 into them, waiting for a break.
All they have to do is put a herring on a hook, and experience true happiness!
...and that is what I want to do with ifish. Share the joy of fishing with people who have no clue how easy it is!

J

As a real Chef and a poker player I love Vegas.
The best buffet to try is at the Aladin. They have the quality of the Belagio with a far greater seletion, and its cheaper. Be sure to go to Commanders Palace for dinner!!!! Lunch is great too. It may look a little expensive but it has been voted the best restaurant in town, it is in the Aladin too. The portions are large and the service is great. Say hi to Santino and the Manager Tom Lynn for me. This is really a must stop for a meal especially if you love seafood. Their crab cakes are very different from what you see here. There is no bread crumbs or fillers. Try the pecan fish or the gumbo. The service is the best in town. I can never say enough about the Brennan family and comanders palace. The phone number in Vegas is 702-892-8272. This is must go to restaurant for everyone.

Other recomendations are
the cafe, buffet or house of blues at the mandalay bay. All high quality and very reasonable.
Nob hill at MGM is excelent but expensive.
The buffet at luxor is good too.

Stay away from the machines they will always win in the end. Play blackjack or craps.

I go to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year and I have paid for my trips playing blackjack and poker.

Have a great trip!!!
