Default Airport security doing really well, it seems

An Alaska Air flight from Seattle to Orlando, Florida was diverted yesterday when a passenger was seen showing kids on the plane the fireworks that he had with him, including a golfball-sized device with a 4" fuse. He also had a knife on him. Story here.

Hey, I was just looking at a new proposal that is supposed to make flying much safer. It works like this:

1. There are no carry-ons....none.

2. Your checked baggage goes via cargo plane. It should arrive within an hour or two of your ETA.

3. All passengers are strip searched. All clothing items are then x-rayed, placed in large Ziplocks with your name on them, and are loaded in the cargo hold. You can claim your belongings when you arrive at your destination! All you need to get on the airplane is your boarding pass....and nothing else.

Should be much safer.

Last summer I flew to Massachusets and back for a family vacation. In both the Boston and Seattle airports, the metal detector did not alert on my key ring and golf ball mark repair tool. The key ring has ten keys and weighs more than my pocketknife, the repair tool is about the size of a pocketknife and is completely made of metal. I don't have a great deal of confidence in the scanning that is taking place.

On a related note, I played golf recently with an airline pilot. We agreed that the skies would be actually safer if we were allowed to keep our pocket knives with us. Under the new regime, I don't see us passengers standing by under a skyjack situation, and I'd prefer to have a weapon.

That all said, I doubt sky******* will be the weapon in the future.

So the article mentions that the "Cherrybomber" could face up to ten years in prison. Justice?

At least they found the dope wrapped in aluminum foil!

TFG, there are certain images we all can do without. You and anything involving less than all your clothing would be high on the list.

Please refrain from such references in the future. Thank you.
