My thoughts are good for the ACC, but bad for the Big East. I bet BC will be the next to jump over to the ACC.

The summer doldrums are just getting going. But it won't be long now and we'll be able to see grown men hurtling themselves at each other at very fast speeds. I sure do love football!!

I read in the paper today that some Big East official types are vowing to make the Big East "stronger than ever."
Huh? Without Miami and VT? Whatch you talkin' 'bout, Willis?

Taking VT was a dumb move for the ACC. They bring nothing to the table. Miami-BC-Syracuse made the most sense and the most money for everyone. I guess we'll take what we can get. I hope number 12 is BC or Cuse. Miami has a large alumni base in the N.E., and New York and Boston are HUGE tv markets. I like the move to the ACC for the improved competition in all of the revenue and non-revenue sports, but I hate the State of North Carolina and everything in it (especially the triangle universities). I guess I have mixed feelings on the whole deal.

So Husker -- is Solich gonna have your boys back this year? College football just isn't right when Big Red is down. I think I'll start looking into making my reservations for N'awlins now.

And for a certain Oregon fan that will probably read this, here's to an 0 and 12 season for the Ducks

The Ducks can trade defences with the Beavers and then they would have an awesome team. But for the mean time I guess we still need to hold are flags and giant foam hands in the air un till they do. But untill then I have been thinking, but havn't copme up with anything because of these horrid pains ..........

Peace out, John

Who in the Big East (or the country for that matter) hasn't been a doormat for Miami for the last 20 years?

The only thing VT has to offer is geographic proximity to tobacco road (which means inexpensive road trips for the Carolina teams), and a mildly competitive football program whose short-lived stay in the top of the polls coincided with 1) home grown recruit Michael Vick, and 2) Miami being on probation for 5 years. There really is no reason to believe that VaTech will be a perennial power in football. And they aren't very good at any other sports either(especially not basketball).

VaTech's alumni base is in Virginia and DC, which the ACC already has, and Lynchberg is not exactly a big TV market. And with the exception of their engineering program, Tech's not really an academic powerhouse.

BC and Cuse on the other hand have good basketball programs (one is defending champ), solid academics, a history of being at least respectable in football (BC always gives Miami and Notre Dame fits, and don't forget "Hail Flutie" in the Orange Bowl in '84), and the huge tv markets (this is all about money BTW).

The only reason VaTech got invited is that Virginia's governor put political pressure on UVA's president not to vote for any expansion that didn't include Tech. The only reason BC didn't get in is NC-State's chancellor is on the Board of Trustees at Notre Dame - which is BC's academic and athletic rival (BC is the better Catholic School and Notre Dame hates that). Combine those factors with Puke and UNC's chancellors voting against everything except Miami by itself, and this is the mess we got.

So tell me, why should VaTech be in there?

Oolith:
I dont really understand all the politics you just pointed out. For my bottom dollar i believe adding more teams to the ACC is about football. Since football is the topic VT is the best choice. Beamer has built a steady program for the last 10 years. Niether cuse or BC have really challenged in football. Both teams are capable of an upset or 2 but not really being as power house.

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Uhhh.........UW is STILL 2-1 against UM, Oto. Just don't bring up that last dismantling you handed us, and I won't chant "2-1, 2-1"

I agree, bring on college football. I think the addition of UM makes the ACC the premier conference in CFB.

DanS, why don't we talk a little about Neuheisel (sp)??????

Otolith, when you said 0 and 12, were you saying the wins and losses for both the ducks and the beavers and the huskies this fall.

GO COUGS!!!

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">Uhhh, let's not.

Your 0-12 with the Ducks, Beavs and Dawgs just isn't going to happen.......because the Dawgs play the Cougs. And the way the Apple Cup has been going, I wouldn't hold my breath anticipating a Coug victory.

I look for the Beavs and Trojans to be the front-runners in the Pac-10.......with UW, WSU, and UCLA looking to scratch their way to the top.

How's the new QB look Otolith? Going to be able to fill Dorsey's shoes?

DanS:

I know you'll disagree with me, but we were robbed in last years Apple Cup. No matter, we'll be in Seattle in a few months and beat you guys there.

Oregon may be good, but last year everybody said they were going to put a hurting on us and we disproved that. That was last year and this is now. We went to the Rose Bowl last year, but we lost too many trememdous players to have that strength this year as horrible as it sounds. Hate to say it but the truth hurts sometimes.

I think it is going to be USC is much as I hate to admit it. As far as the beavers go, I don't think the Beavs know what a win feels like..... Have they ever beat anyone???

I don't think anybody will ever be able to fill Dorsey's shoes. That guy was just a flat out winner. The new QB apparently has serious skills, but I'd rather have another Dorsey.

ducks beaver an dagws should have at least 8 wins season.....now my huskers .....well if the D can carry a poor O then maybe 9 wins is possible otherwise its toilet bowl again....lets hope that the new OC can make a difference in the solich play calling scheme
