Default Comcast Problems??

Anybody else having Comcast problems? I downloaded the wizard to change my ATTBI email as soon as it was offered. "All you have to do is reboot your computer!" yeah, right. Rebooted three times, tested both old and new addresses. No luck.

To top it off, comcast.connect.net where you are supposed to go for the download is offline (figures). I sent comcast an email but if everybody is in the same boat it may be a month before we get this fiasco unraveled.

The joys of the computer age! At least my broadband still works!

I installed the transition wizard the night prior to the actual date, and although there was an initial error dialogue message, the transition went fine the second time around.

Won't know 'til I get home.

I logged on from work, and everything looked in order ... not sure exactly what the wizard is supposed to do. (Pay NO ATTENTION to the little man behind the curtain  )

"comcast.connect.net" doesn't sound right, wouldn't that be "connect.comcast.net" ?

I did it manually, because i didn't trust the wizard. So far, things are mostly OK, except that I can't send mail to my kids' computer. Their site has been absolutely hammered today, and mail throughput is abysmal - 15 to 20 minutes for mail to get from me to my wife. This used to be 5 seconds. I'm hoping this is temporary...

And another thing - the parental controls aren't working.

My wife did hers and the wizard didn't work either...she fixed it herself. I will get the details from her. I haven't done mine yet and expect the same problems as everybody else....

I knew comcast wasn't going to be a good change and it PO'd me when I heard about the changes. I hope this isn't the start of issues to come.

Crabbait,

You did actually see the software run? You get a couple pages of questions etc. so you know it, the auto update is not in the background. Sounds like the autoupdate file may have downloaded but might not have run on your PC.

It should be on your computer in a Comcast directory. The file is ISPBEG.EXE. Run it if you find it.

Here's the link to the update software page vs. the main Comcast support page.

http://online.comcast.net/connect/

Try turning PC off and on vs. soft reboot after the auto update has run.

I held my breath when the changeover software kicked in today but all went well. It cruised through resetting my 6 email accounts in Outlook Express and everything was copasetic.

After it runs, be sure to remove ComCast.net as the default page for your browser.

The Comcast pages are crazy slow to load and whiteout...someone needs to kick major booty over their ASP code. The Comcast support page is a joke and I wouldn't be surprised if 50% of their support calls are because of the support page.

If the email doesn't work, did you try configuring it manually.

1. mail.comcast.net for Incoming mail POP3
2. smtp.comcast.net for Outgoing mail SMTP
3. crabbiat@comcast.net vs. crabbait@attbi.net
4. Password is the same.

The servers are up and working so probably some glitch in the autoconfigure gizmo.

Also,

Mine ran fine too. Brion's instructions are correct otherwise.

Spell your new email name right though <grin>

I have been on Comcast since January, never did the ATT thing. I had 1 month where the email was off and on, when I call and asked if there was a problem they said yes and it was their fault. When I asked if they were then giving a credit for part of their service that I pay for not working, I was told email is a luxury and I should just be happy to have it at all. I was in a mood so I unloaded on her about customer service.

I changed everything manually as well, I don't trust wizards, especially ones that could contain spyware, etc... Once I changed everything, I sent e-mail to the new address, old address and my own domains address and all were received in seconds!

Comcast news servers were smoking this morning, but my Giganews account was downloading headers at half the speed of the Comcast servers.

I thought I was going to have to re-publish my websites, but to my surprise everything was transferred over! Just have to let everybody know about the new address.

Worked fine for me with the wizard. I did have to do a hard reboot for it to work.

SH, do you think the manual transition work had anything to do with your difficulties? I thought the transition wizard was pretty much limited to the e-mail transfer from attbi.com to comcast.net? I used the wizard and have not faced any problems, yet.

My thrill for the day was all the darn spam I have all of a sudden. I have had my main address since it was @home.com and NEVER had spam. Log in today and my husbands has 5 less-than-savory emails in his account that we started for him 6 DAYS ago. My main account has 1 and 2 in my ifish account. I e-mailed Comcast, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I don't even use my Comcast email account. I can only imagine the spam that's backing up in there.
