Default Bears at olallie?

Under the thread titled "olallie lake" I found this post;

" I camped Sunday until Tuesday and the place was empty compared to years past. Trolling off the points are the most productive for me.

Take care of your garbage and your food as I had bear in my camp on two occassions Tuesday morning at 1:30 a.m. and again just before sunrise. The first bear snooped around my whole camp for about five minutes before taking off. The second bear brushed up against my tent as it went through and didn't stay long.

I was camped in primitive spot and not in a campground."

Anyone have any input? I was going up next week with my girl and my dog. Should I be concerned?
Thanks Guys

While you start packing the fishing gear, Might want to pack a gun just in case. I was up there last summer and kinda the same situation, I took my handgun and fired it in the sky. Bear ran and didn't see him for the rest of the week. Just be careful and mind the space that you share with nature. good luck

I've been camping, hiking, and backpacking in the Olallie, Monon, and Horseshoe Lake area for twenty five years and that was the first time I have had a bear in my camp to my knowledge. I have slept out in tents and in the open on the ground many many times with no issues. In years past I have had people ask me "Did you see the bear last night?"

Last year the resort wasn't open so not many people up that way compared to years past. To me that equals more wildlife around the lake. This year not many people either, so......

Don't keep food in your tent or close to your tent. Don't leave food sitting out in the open. Don't leave food in the firepit. Don't leave your fire burning when you go to bed either as it is VERY dry up that way.

I didn't yell at the bear because they weren't trashing my stuff and I figured I was on their turf. I was camping with my nine year old daughter and I didn't want to wake her and risk the possibility of freaking her out.

GO and have a great time, just be wise to the possibilities.

I wouldn't hesitate going back to the same spot again this week.

I believe Olallie means "Huckleberry", which equals a tasty treat for the bears.

Jeez, bang a few pots and pans and a black bear will scatter. Pu the cooler back in your rig and don't leave food out and they'll pass you by.The only time to really worry about them is if you come between a sow and her cub.

Frankly, I would worry more about folks with handguns blasting away in the middle of the night in a campground.

I'd be concerned about having the dog along.
You can almost guarantee a commotion if the one gets wind of the other.

And here I didn't know you could go out without a handgun, heck if I didn't have one on me I'd probably fall over.
