Re: No more telemarketers!!!
Geek, you're right but the list of exempts gets fairly long with the federal regulations. Phone company could mean Qwest, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, MCI and how many others. Also telemarketers in your state are exempt. Oregon is loaded with call centers who call you at dinnertime. Washington has a bunch also.
Sounds as if the state regs are going to be tougher to get around.

Re: No more telemarketers!!!
I signed up for it this morning. Took a bit with all the traffic their site is getting. I signed up for the Oregon No Call list a few months ago. My calls from scumbag telemarketers has dropped to NIL. Dang phone used to ring over a dozen times a night, now hardly at all.
Geek, RE: your comment about their finding loop holes. You're quite right and being in the IT biz yourself, you've HAD to see the huge increase in the amount of SPAM emails recently. I think that's what telemarketing will turn to in even larger numbers. It's a nightmare!

Re: No more telemarketers!!!
Been on the No Call list for about a year now...spam calls went from several a day, it seemed, to virtually zero. Got a rare call a couple days ago from J.D.Power & Assoc. conducting some poll...but that was the first one in a long time.

Re: No more telemarketers!!!
...if you can get it to come up. It's getting a lot of traffic today. Unfortunately there are enough loopholes in it that the telemarketing industry will figure out a way around it soon enough. Keep in mind that companies that you have previously done business with, charities, the phone company, and a few others are exempt from this.

Re: No more telemarketers!!!
seems funny you gotta pay to get rid of unwanted calls. I got rid of phone lines saved money now I have one business phone line and two cell phones. wireless internet from a repeater and no phone lines. What I get disturbed about most is recorded messages I think they should be outlawed.

Re: No more telemarketers!!!
as long as there are lawyers, there will always be loopholes. that's what they're paid for. they will find ways around this.
a while back, the company i work for was involved in a class action suit in another state. according to the laws, etc., we're not supposed to give our customer list to other companies. their solution: form a temporary partnership with the outside company, effectively bringing them halfway inhouse in an attempt to circumvent the law. i never did hear how this all turned out but it was pretty heated there for a while.

Re: No more telemarketers!!!
Why pay anything? Just don't answer your phone, let the machine get it and if it's a telemarketer they hang up(9 out of 10 times) and If it's someone you want to talk to you answer it, voila! problem solved.
Now what i'd like to have a solution for is the 8 to 10 offers I get for credit cards and refinancing every week, not to mention the wifes too. Must be good for the paper shredder manufacturers.

Re: No more telemarketers!!!
I rarely get calls from telemarketers. I don't know why not- my number's listed in the book. I'm not complaining, mind you.
Maybe because I have caller ID and don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number? I don't have long distance service on my home phone (I use my cell) and I have never gotten a solicitation from a LD company.
