Little Blackfoot report 7/27
Belated report from Montana. Went there on business to Deer Lodge, MT, and brought my fly rod for some after hours therapy.
It was tough fishing for me as I'd never fished the Little Blackfoot. I fished a Joe's hopper, with a copper bead head dropper, and that worked best. The brown trout seemed to like the hopper, and the cutthroat seemed to like the nymph.
This river is very small and deep pockets are few and far between near the access along the highway up by Avon, MT, but those spots were most productive. The fish werent big....only about 10 inches, but some of the most beautiful cutts, and browns I've ever caught. very vibrant.
Don't forget bug spray. I didnt put any on at first and got 25 bites in 20 minutes. I saw beavers, bald eagles, and had a close encounter with some sleeping bats that were hanging from the highway overpass! eek!
