Re: What a Ride!
Great pic. Oh- warm water, sunny beaches and feesh (and mammals). I miss Cabo! Time to go again
Last trip down there we had a huge school (pod?) of porp's surfing in the boat wake just like that pic. Wake wasn't quite that high, but there were 20-30 of them criters on each side of the boat.
We were having a blast watching them, but they appeared to be having more fun watching us watching them.

Re: What a Ride!
Lived in Laguna Beach for awhile when the big gray boat was in the yards at Long Beach. Many mornings we would get up at dawn and body surf the break in the cove. Early in the day the wind was usually down and the waves looked like they were oiled.
I vividly remember the first time I looked over to see a Dolphin surfing alongside looking back at me. They never bumped us but were often close enough to touch. They didn't make it every day but you never knew when one or two or ten would join the fun. The only ocean creature I know that seems to make having fun the #1 priority!

Re: What a Ride!
I did some training once at Coronado NAB, and on our morning run dolphins would follow us on the beach, swimming along for a ways. Never saw them surfing, though. Awesome pic!

Re: What a Ride!
When I was first learning to surf I used to surf at torrey pines. And the dolphins were a pretty common occurance in the surf down there. I actually had one swim under me once.
It can freak you out to see the fin coming out of the water. But then you hear the blow and you relax. They truly are amazing animals.
Once I started surfing Marine St I stopped seing them as often.
I remember whe we were transiting the straits of Juan de fuca on the way to Vancouver. I was out on a sponson and watching the water. It was fall and the algae in the water were luminescent when they were struck. So you'd see pockets of light in the water around the hull of the ship. Some dolphins came in to play in the wake. They were making lumenescent wakes as they swam. I wathced them for about an hour. It's something I'll never forget. Almost pitch black and you can see them moving in the water and hear them talking/echo locating in the water as they darted back and forth in the wake. I was in awe.
