Default rubber wrap for crab rings

I have a couple rings where the rubber wrap is starting to fall apart.

Where does one get the rubber strips that are used to wrap the metal rings? Cutting up an old inner tube tire perhaps?

Old inner tube is exactly what my Dad used when I was a kid. This was definatedly a while ago ....
