Timothy lake report// Boat camping
Well we went up to try something new. Got some great advise from you all, thanks again for your input.
#1 beautiful lake, I really enjoyed getting away from the crowd on the front side. I am glad I had a boat. More on that later.
#2 parking, I called the pge and the forest service, they both said that the forest pass would work for the overflow parking. When we got back there was a slip on my jeep that said I needed to pay 6 bucks a day and that they recorded my license. I tried to check with the camp host before and after no were to be found. Now I will pay this but someone needs to get there stories straight first. Any input on this would be great.
#3 trout fishing. Although we did not do alot of it ( some in the morning and evening I did not get any. I was not trying overly hard but I threw some spinners at them and good ol' power bait and worms. Nada is what I got but I had alot of fun catching Nada.
#4 I saw alot of people catching trout. All were trolling. I talked with a few of them and they said all but the brookies had the paristes on them. That's too bad really. It is such a clean lake, I don't know why.
#5 It is true what they say about being close to the shore and watching for logs. Man they are everywere. I even swam out once and helped an elderly man with his grandson change his drift pin because he sheerd it off on a log and he was a good 20 feet off shore. The good news is you can see them all you just have to watch out for them.
#6 Crawdads, Well my traps sucked. I tried cat food and bacon, got a few but I think I may have made my cone holes too big. I left them out with some in it to see if they were getting out and they were. However to the man that said just bring a flash light and pick them up at night, you wre right on. My freind and I probably got 50 to 80 dads in a couple of hours. Man what a blast, trying to catch them and the rush of getting pinched. WOOHOO. Now that was fun.
In summery I will be going back. Great time most everyone I talked with were very plesant. One note though. Boats are not toys. If you are reading this please watch your children when people are docking. I was idleing straight in and this kid swims over right infront of his mom and grabs the back of my boat. So I shut it down right now because I figured he was drownding and it trouble. I run back there and he say what are you doing I just wanted a tow. I yelled at him, I may have went a little overboard but man if I would not have been paying attiention to what was behind me he could have lost a leg or arm. Then the lady started yelling at me saying I was a big jerk and that he was just tring to enjoy my boat and how did I have the right. Man I tell you some people.
Anyways hope this helps anyone else with questions.
Have a great day and thanks for all the advise again.

Nice report! Don't worry about that lady yelling at you. Hopefully the point stuck with her son. It might save his life someday. The lack of supervision, parenting, and plain old common sens, I see out there is disappointing and scary.

Sounds like a good trip. Don't let the bad parenting by the lady on the dock take all the memories. You did the right thing... Safety first.
Timothy is a fun lake to stay at... better w/ a boat.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like a great trip outside of one idiot and her child. Crawdading with a flashlight is certainly a hoot. It works even better if somebody gets a little too much Jack and unloads their spaghetti in the water. Don't ask me how I know that .

Was there a month ago - Was the dead bull elk still floating around? He had been in there so long, his skin was white - head was under water - strange looking to say the least. Go deeper with a small downrigger-30ft-I did really well.

LOL!! Well I will say there was a fair amount of beer involved but No Jack and No spaghetti. Funny thing is the more beer you have the faster they get, but it hurts less when they catch you.

Here is my advise. Drink 10 beers, ( if you're over 21 ) leave the traps at home, wait till 20 minutes after dark, grab a good flash light and a buddy were acceptable , walk out in about a foot of water and catch about 9 billion in an hour or so.
As far as where to go?? Everywhere we tried was outstanding. I suppose from what I read they like cover but honestly, everywhere we went there were tons.
Hope that helps.

Re: Timothy lake report// Boat camping
Timothy lake is a great place. I've been going there for over 30 years now. Wow I am getting old. Heading up there this wednessday afternoon for my family campout. Not sure if I will do much fishing but still fun. As far as the lady yelling at you. Well she should have been thanking you. Sure would have put a lousy ending to a great outing. Kudos to you for saying something.
