Default Life at Black Butte Ranch

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!
I am at the Sisters Library. Why? Internet access!
My name is Jennie Logsdon Martin and I am an internet addict...OK, that out of the way, I'll tell you a little about what's happenin' in this neck of the woods.

Got here on Saturday. Went to my Aunt and Uncle's 50th Wedding Anniversary at Sun River. Sun river was cloudy and COLD! It's still cold here, and windy!

I was on the road from 6 until about 2 that day. Long day!

Got to the Golf Home, and decided to try out my connection on the lap top. Well, the Sony decided it really didn't have a C moss battery and wouldn't boot up. That is So bizarre because it has been working ever since Sony gave it back, supposedly "without" the C moss. There is absolutely no way anyone in my family knows how to a. identy, nor b. remove a C moss battery!

Oh well, it's gone! I think I'll write one last letter to Sony, and then throw the laptop in the trash.

So, I called Pete to ask how ifish is doing. Told him about my computer. Pete said, "I'll save you!" and drove up here yesterday to fish and bring me a laptop. Guess what? We spent hours trying to get his lap top to work and finally gave up. Jennie is now at the library.

Pete and I went fishing on the Metolius for a bit, across from Canyon something or another camp. It was a lot of fun, but pretty windy and pretty cold. Didn't catch anything, and Pete refused to fish with what was working. Something that he said looked a lot like an old sock. He said they are no fun to cast. Oh well! No fish, so back to camp we went.

Decided to have dinner with the family at Kokanee at the Metolius. We reserved a table for 9 or so, and drove on over to enjoy the company. On the way, Pete spotted an ifish sticker! So, I took another sticker, wrote on the back that I had gotten a kick out of seeing it, and stuck it to his windshield. Fun! On the way back, after dinner, it was missing, so he got the note, whoever it is!

Pete left for Portland and I went back to the house.

Our rental home is beautiful, as always, and the bed... well, I'm trying to figure out how to haul it home with me. It is to die for! A feather bed with a down comforter and old fashioned quilt. Lots of fluffy pillows! I WANT IT!

Got up this morning, early and went to Black Butte lake to catch a few trout before breakfast. I thought I'd catch it before it was too windy, but darnit, anway, the wind picked up, and it was a wild show out there! The clouds thickened, my ears froze, and pretty soon, I was chased back to my car with a fierce wind on my tail!

It's ugly cold out here! Like winter!

I took a nice slow drive to Sisters, latte in hand, and found this lovely library to keep warm in, and to feed my addiction.

I'm going to work on my e mail for a while, and then, perhaps buck the wind and put my swimsuit on and go swimming anyhow. I may not get a tan, but I have to make my daily access fee pay off, and use these facilities, come rain, sleet, snow, or high water!

Supposed to be thunder today! I hope so. I love Central Oregon thunderstorms.

Anyway-- I do miss you all, and ifish, too.

Hope you are all catching lots of sturgeon... Read that there is an early closure in the paper or something? I'll finish that article later.

Wasn't the story in the Oregonian about the Tacki Tooo something? I read it last night before bed. Some bedtime story. :depressed:

Off I go, have a great day, and I'll probably be back. This place is cozy and warm.

Write to me on this post. I need a fix.

Jen

If you really want to catch some fish, 2 good options nearby are Suttle lake and 3 creeks reservoir. Either rent a boat at Suttle to troll for Kokes or fish off the north bank with bait through the aftenoon and cast Rapalas from dawn til 8:00 a.m., and 8:00 p.m. til dusk. If it is windy at BB, it will be even more windy at Suttle.

Three creeks is one of the most beautiful, peaceful bodies of water in the state but last time I was there the road was so bad it made 20 miles of driving seem like 50. It has jewelry in the water. (Brookies)

Then again, sometimes it is better to take the pressure off ones self and enjoy doing nothing. Have a good time.

Jen - Black Butte is one of my favorite places to relax, I get up there 3 or 4 times a year (or more), plenty for everyone to do, horse back riding is a blast if you like that sort of thing... lots of great hiking and bike trails, I've never fished the lake, I'll try that next time.....Thursday is supposed to be HOT!!!! Bring a blanket if you decide to go swimming today

Make sure someone keeps the fireplace stoked (and the flue open) ... and see that someone keeps busy making ice cream! Between the two, you should be able to find the right temperature.

10 minutes and counting until the library computers turn off. Then, home to eat the half of my 37 pounder from T bay. (Or was that 39???)

Went swimming at Glaze Meadow. First in the cold diving pool, then the warm swimming pool, and topped it off with a hot tub. Then, ten minutes laying in the filtered sun pretending it was hot out. I even got out the cocoanut tanning oil. The smell was great.

Then, off for a strawberry smoothie.

Thanks for leaving me notes. This made my day!

Heck Jen,

This aint winter. It is only a little bit of our late spring.

Yesterday I took my daughter's boyfriend to Wickiup to break in his new fishing rod. It was cool and windy, kinda ugly cold. He caught two kokanee before we had to leave.

He also got a new reel. Guess what kind I bought for him? Yup, an Okuma Avenger. I was so impressed with the one that I won last month on Ifish that there was no doubt which reel I would get.

Snapset is dead on about Three Creeks. I love that place too. Even if you don't fish, it is a lovely place to visit and hike around. At 6,000 feet it can be cold though.

If you are still at BB it is supose to warm up starting tomorrow.

Hi honey, I'm home!!!

Now, onto 819 e mails, a column to write, and web pages to fix up.

ARGH!

But I love my river! Frankly, I think it is just as pretty here on the Kilchis, as it is in Black Butte. Glad to be home.

BTW, a C-MOS battery is the only thing that looks like a battery in the computer (like a watch battery), though I've never tried to mess with the laptop version - everything's the same except tiny.

FR guy, are the Wickiup kokanee just getting bigger? Nice fish.
