That one of "Truck 25" really captured for me the almost fruitless hope that a powerful hose can have much impact on a fire that big. Wow!

Thanks for sharing!

Hogmaster, that is actually Truck 1 (only bucket we have in the city rest are ladder trucks) the photographer had it wrong but still a great shot. When we have the ladder pipes in the air they are usually putting out 1000-1200 GPM. Gives you an idea how much fire those big buildings can generate. The fire the morning before was much bigger because of the huge amount of stuff in the building. Our main priority when a building gets to the point of us going defensive like that is not to get anyone hurt and protect the adjoining buildings. It was a busy 24 hours and I wouldnt have it any other way

Crabbait, it is exciting and also a lot of fun. I love my job and can't think of anything else I would rather do.

Big Dog, it doesn't get real hot while up in the bucket or on top of an ariel ladder. Will get a little warm if you are directly in the smoke but if they are taking a bunch of radient heat they will move back a bit. Where we really get into the heat is inside the building.

Here is Firefighting website that has a lot of articles and pictures. Firehouse.com
