Default SPAM law?

Ive not been paying much attention, but I think I heard that an anti-spam law died on the floor.
Now independant states are trying to pass new spam restrictions.

Do you think it should be a crime to send unsolicited bulk mail?

I do, and I support any law that prohibits SPAM or the sharing of your email adress without your expressed permission.

In a recent discusion, someone pointed out that the larger IP's (Yahoo, MSN) who offer email and "spam blockers" DO NOT support SPAM restrictions...."antispam software is big business, and an attractive promotional tool generating sales"

Duh, is this pathetic or what?

I think it is annoying and want a law past but all you have to do is push delete. I would rather have them get rid of junk paper mail.

cotr,

Definitely should be illegal.

Best current example. When fax machines got hot, a lot of folks were getting pages and pages of junk faxmail.

It was outlawed. Law worked great. No more junk fax mail.

Should be applied to unsolicited email and phone calls.

PS You see the news story on Utah Senator Orin Hatch. He says anyone with illegal software should have their computer hard drive erased. They looked at his website and found illegal software he never paid for...tut, tut.

The only reason why those big ISPs don't want spam outlawed is because they sell their customer email lists to spam senders. The smaller ones don't like spam, because it costs them money to transport and distribute that garbage.

Emails that are adult in nature should not be sent without the person opting to have it sent to them. Any unsolicited email should have the nature of the email clearly described in the subject of the email in 25 characters or less, or at the very least have a special flag on it that shows it to be unsolicited email. If I want the product, then I will open it. Otherwise, I'll delete it.
