Default Tips for a first finish coat

Well after a lot of wating and frusturation with factory built rods I decided to invest and get set up to build my own. As of now. My grip/seat assembly is glued, and all of the guides and wraps have been wrapped. Up until now the process has been easy and reversable. I am taking caution with finishing however. Anything I should really do or not do? Are their any tips or suggestions to make this easiar. I have a feeling that once I know what to expect finishing will not be such a daunting task, All help is apreciated.

Do you have any old broken rods that you could practice on? That might boost your confidence level up.
Angler's Workshop used to sell 18" sections of rod blanks that came from the Lamiglas factory. Sold primarily for rod builders to make their own cork reamers but they made great "practice" blanks as well, for testing thread patterns and sealer/finish color tests.

FWIW, anything you can mess up can be fixed or redone. Been there, done that...

Thanks for the tip. I do have some old broken blank sections, and I think I will try that out.

I got an old lamiglass at a yard sale that got left in the weather for awhile. The finish was pretty much wrecked. I disassembled it, re-wrapped it and finished it. I used that as practice and it was a great confidence builder knowing that I couldnt screw up an already screwed up rod.
