I would say that you got ripped off. Sounds like they forgot about the service in the term service. Did you go to where you purchased the motors? Doesn't seem right to me.

Call yamaha service centers and find out if the warranty and maintenance work is based on a book time. Get some estimates and you will know.

I takes me about 2 hours and $100 to do all that on my yamaha 115 and 8.

If you didn't get an estimate before hand, there really isn't anything you can complain about.

But that price is absolutely insane. I just changed the gear oil in my F150 and T8 the other day. It was $22 for a couple qts of fluid. I didn't spend 30 minutes changing oil in both engines.

I can change the engine oil with filter in both engines for under $40. Less than 30 minutes there as well.

Sorry to hear you were way over charged.....! About a month ago I did the same exact maintenance on my Yamaha 225 and 9.9 for $125.00. Took me about two hours mainly because it was my first time. Should take about an hour now that I know how to do it.

Curious, my Yamaha manual calls for the first oil change, filter, etc. at 20 hrs not 10 hrs?

Why would they do a compression check on a new motor? Where did you have the work done?

That is a lot. But they must of gave you an itemized bill. How is it broken down as far as parts and labor? What is there hourly charge? Break it down and if it doesn't add up go and have a talk with them.

For having the oils, fuel filter, compression and gear oil done I can see them charging for about 2 hours maybe a little more.

My owners manual says 20 hour check up. can you pm me the name of the dealer?

It usually runs me max $400 for a full service on my 150 and T-8. $880 sounds out of control to me.

Getting an estimate is a good way to go. Sometimes I try to figure out if I want to do the work or if it's worth having someone else do it. If someone gave me an $800 estimate (which they have for tractor maintenance) I thank them very much for making my decision easy!

Sorry to hear that...Makes me sick that they would charge you that price for no more than $150 worth of service.

I have the same motor Almost (F200) if you want to go over the required service so you can do yourself let me know....

2 F150s and a T8-change oil, new filters and replace lower unit grease. Used 12 qts Royal Purple synthetic oil. Total less than $150. + about 2 hours time. It's easy to do and if I save than kind of money I'm stoked!

That seems pretty steep to me and would be pretty hot. I think you need to talk to them and get to the bottom of the charges. If they can not show you in parts and labor where all that time went to then demand a refund in part.

When you get your post purchase survey from Yamaha, be sure to note where you received your service and complain as it will impact the dealers rating if they are an authorized service provider and retailer.

Most of the service work that was performed can be completed by yourself as really all that is required for the first service is a complete change of fluids to pull out the metal shavings that occur during the break in period on the rings and lower unit gears. Fuel filters are really a snap and they should be fine in most instances unless there were contaminants in the fuel tank or lines. Water separation is another issue, but with only 10 hours of use I am assuming its way to early to worry about that.

I would search this forum and look up how to change the oil without making a mess in the process. Get that part down and you really will not need to see a service provider for some time with regular oil and fuel filter changes. Also, be sure to use a fuel stabilizer to prevent water separation.

Basic preventative maintenance on outboards like Yamahas may seem intimidating at first but once you really look at it, its not that bad- if you can add, walk and chew gum, talk on your cell phone and drive, i bet you could save yourself some $$$$. My

As a former NR rigger and service tech we charge $90/hr labor plus parts. And for what you are saying you had done bills were NEVER that much! And we were a Yamaha 5 Star Factory Certified shop. Parts alone should have only costed you around $100. And it only takes maybe an hour, hour and a half to do the work. Sorry man.

Back in May I took my new boat to Chinook Marine for it's 10 hour service on both my 225 Yamaha and 9.9. I got charged $180.00. I do think you got gouged.

Cool Re: 225 yamaha service BILL $$$$

Sorry for your outrageous bill for service ...
Wish I could tell you something to ease the shock of this ...
Some techs have no ethics ... By the way did you approve all this compression
checking and lower unit oil changing ?
Sounds like they did a lot more than a simple first service to me ...

I think that the service / maintenance deptarments are the money makers for the dealers now. ( Well new car dealers with the junker deals are helping them out ) My 225 and 9.9 Hondas every 100 hrs maintenance adds up,,,,,Most centers are hurting but you hate to get the screews, How about the oil change with alittle extras $1500. the $40 dollar fix thats cost $80 and not fixed, thats where I have been latey,,,You think Harleys Motorcycles cost money to maintain,,,,, done right everything does but the key for me is done right,,,,,,,,,,,HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE

10 hr service is oil top and bottom, fuel and oil filters and change the spark plugs... you also check the timing as well.
You change spark plugs on all Yamahas at 10 hours...
They use alot of prelube when they put the motor together and it fouls plugs...that is the reason for the plugs being changed at 10 hrs.
Should have been a set price...
Lots of motor techs insist on doing a compression test on every motor brought in. Yamahas have to be tested warm... not cold and if there is a scored liner or something then tuning your motor may not help..why waste your $? New or not..doesnt make a difference.
Where was this at?
