Default Mercury XR2 175 Sport Jet repair

First time looking around on the boat and motor tech threads. I have a sport jet I would like some work done on but not sure where/who I should bring it to. I live in Longview, WA but work in Camas, WA. If they are worth the trip I don't mind driving to S. Portland. Any advice would be appreciated.

There's a shop that starts with Davis that's near you, they have been helpful in getting parts, and they stand by their work.

Those motors are pretty basic, what do you want done?

When it comes to engines I am lost but it sounds like I am not getting a spark when I start the engine. So have them look into that and grease / lube everything. Last couple times I have been taking it to S. Portland but would love to find a place closer if possible.

The SJ is a regular old 2.5 merc block with a different crank to fit the pump. There is nothing mechanically special about it. Mark of Mark's Merc's worked on my mine a little, really honest stright foward guy. My 15 merc will be going down there too. He is in salem though.

I had a local guy rebuild the motor for me last year. Did a good job, but he has fallen of the face of planet so I can't really reccomend him.

Later,

Chris

If you are having issues getting it started, do a quick search here. Lots of info. A primer bulb comes to mind.

I have the same motor. Mine is a 2004 model. Last year I lost spark on the right bank. I replaced the stator and the problem was solved. Very easy job to do. If you start trouble shooting and find that the stator is the issue it was only around 100 bucks to replace. Hope this helps.

Crazy thing is I went to do some trouble shooting the next day and it started up on the first try. From talking to a buddie who thinks he knows a little about motors he thinks it might have been vapor locked.
