Need a licensed contractor
I work for a place that sells and installs school equipment, ie) lockers, bleachers, basketball backstops, auditorium chairs, etc.......... We are a manufactures rep basically that purchases the product, ships it to the site and subcontracts out all the onsite labor to assemble/install the product.
Work is either feast or famine, and summer is usually feast time as school is out and we do 70 % of our work in a few months.
To be eligible for this work, you need to have a valid contractors license and insurance & bond, you know the stuff that makes you legal to do construction work in the state or either Oregon or Washington. That requirement alone rules out a lot of people who just want to work. Some projects require drug testing which rules out some contractors I dont want to work with anyway.
anyhoo, if you are, or know of a licensed contractor who is interested in tearing old lockers out of a school, riveting new lockers together, and installing them I have work that is almost ready to go. Depending on how that goes, I may transition them into other lines of work we install. Projects are all over OR and WA as everywhere there is a school, there is potential for the district to either replace or buy new equipment.
Please email me if you are qualified and interested. baitoeggs@hotmail.com

Re: Need a licensed contractor
I'm curious, do the budget shortfalls of the many school systems here in Oregon have an impact on these sales? I am licensed, and would be interested in talking. First question, what is the time frame to get started here? What would be an adequate crew size to complete the jobs and why are you going out of your way to find a contractor for this stuff? I would imagine theres plenty of hungry licensed people here in oregon who would jump on an op to make a little money...or is this the problem: "little money" ??. Ive got Oregons minimum liability which is adequate for everything exept some roofing applications, and a million dollar bond, I am an "exempt" contractor licensed in Oregon (which allows me to contract in WA with certain provisions) "exempt" means I do not carry workers compensation, which is not required if I dont hire employees. However I CAN hire through a staffing agency which provides comp, and all the payroll stuff and employees too. It is perfectly legal but can be a bit expensive on my end. If you think theres money to be made for someone like me, (either working alone, or hiring through a staffing agency) drop me a line, we can discuss it.

Re: Need a licensed contractor
Bait, I'm sure you already know this, but may I advise you to be sure and get the insurance declarations page for any contractor you hire. To keep our costs down we specifically are licensed and insured for residential, not commercial work. You want to make sure that anyone you hire is licensed and insured as a commercial contractor. Otherwise, you expose yourself to liability issues. Also, by checking with the CCB you can verify whether they are registered exempt or non-exempt in terms of hiring employees and carrying workmen's comp.

Re: Need a licensed contractor
COTR - check your mail.
In answer to your question, when schools go for bond measures, the money is used for non operating expense items like equipment. In the last few years a lot of schools have passed bonds. The schools havent seemed to have problems getting money to build the school in the past, the money difficulties come when they try to staff and fund the operation of the schools. I have been watching the new Liberty HS in Hillsboro that is just being completed, Hillsboro builds a state of the art facility and almost didnt open the building next year I think we may see a slow down in the future, but it is hard to tell. After a bond measure is passed, the projects sit on an architects desk for upwards of a year, then by the time the new facility is build and we are installing equipment, another year has passes. So the work we are installing this summer are from bonds a few years ago. Washington and Alaska seem to not have the budget issues Oregon does and our work overall will probably not be affected much if any at all with Oregon trying to find funds.
Fisheromen - thanks, I do all of that, always checking to make sure the subs are legit with CCB and have current insurance etc..... It is a lot easier now that I can do a lot of it online.
Still trying to explain to the boss why I need to read the salty dog board, for sale boards, hunting board, ifish community etc... on company time before I can check on the contractor wanted post in LIG

Re: Need a licensed contractor
BOE,
Here is some justification for your boss.... I live in Sheridan and we just passed a bond for a new Middle school, construction is starting this fall. I'm not sure who(if anyone?) has the contract for our new equipment......might be worth checking out!
We are combining the Middle school(Chapman) and the grade school(Faulconer), not sure what the name of the new school will be. I can get more info if you need it, or just contact Sheridan school district.
Good luck and good fishing.
Scott
