Question Coal Creek Slough

Hey guys little help. I have been to coal creek slough 3 times and this last time was today. I only got some crappie to bite and the logg dam that some one put up a sign saying privite property. I have yet to catch a bass there. I have seen one. And whats up with the private property sign do they have water rights or just put that up? I have herd that can be very good for bass. I was wondering if anyone had tips and areas for me. I catch and release. Thanks

I know the log you are talking about. It is a series of logs stretched across the slough to keep people out of that end. It is not private property. In fact, those logs should not even be there. It's a bluff. Someone should take a chain saw and cut them out of the way. It is, in fact, illegal to block off a public waterway like that.

You can't get "water rights" to public waterways like that.

Yes, he MUST be. It'd be nice if young people spoke respectfully to adults. Learn a new phrase: tongue in cheek. Speaking of smart...

I know that specific piece of water in question. I grew up fishing that area in the 80's before I moved to Seattle. I remember when they built the road and moved the barge/boat and closed off that end of the slough. I was mad as heck and thought the same thing as you about owning public water. We (a group of fellow fisherman) did some research to find out how to challenge that log buoy. Unfortunately we had that property owner CAN call water private property if it is created by a dam. Because we have dams on the Columbia appparently that property owner is within his legal right to fence off that area.
With that being said I have seen and caught many largemouth bass in that area. Tide has a great deal to do with the success I have had there. Crawdad patterned crankbaits work on points, shallow runners in tenn shad on riprap. Floating rapalas twitched and tubes thrown under the overhanging bush on outgoing tides can be a go pattern. Do be afraid to try the area heading out to the Columbia as well.

Apparently Washington is very different than Oregon. Because that doesn't fly over here. See www.oregonriverrights.com

Those floating logs strung together isn't a dam anyway. It's just a barrier to keep boats out of there. It's not legal. We used to drive over beaver dams and logs like that in our jon boats. Get back and get a little speed up. Be ready to kill the motor if the back end stops with the motor out of the water. Then push off.

LOL... Ya or I can take my 19ft fiberglass boat with a 150 around the little island there come around at about 50 and trim up and jump it and hope not to sink on the other side I went down there the other day around 4 on the outgoing tide caught nothing from the bank by the log dam Saw some sun fish and some hug fish just under the surface but it was movin too fast to se what it was. I used firetiger crank and craw colored and bunch of diff colored sinkos and nothin. Need to take one of the dynomite sinkos down there and remove the logs and catch fish at the same time Kill 2 bird with one stone.

As far as the launch goes, just park your rig on the road (ocean beach hwy) There is a very large shoulder along the Hwy there, with all the traffic going by I think your stuff would be safe.
