Default Earthlink DSL....GRRRRRR!!!!

Was a Teleport dial up customer for a while, then Earthlink bought them. In December we made the switch to DSL. However, we have been double billed (dial up and DSL) ever since. Just got my credit card statement, its still continuing. 6 months, 3 calls...still not resolved.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd cancel on them and go to AT&T/Comcast cable internet if I didnt fear frequent price hikes, etc.

Sorry, just had to vent.

Comcast is, from what I hear, going to up their cable Internet prices to around $54/mo shortly to help with the costs of absorbing ATT Broadband. Personally, I'm looking at Qwest DSL.

I don't know if anyone here can help solve a billing problem, but I had very good response from Earthlink DSL when I called them about a billing problem. Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I switched to Qwest DSL last year, as soon as it became available in my white trash neighborhood. $39.95/month, and no charge for the modem as long as I stay with it for a year. No problems so far.

I'm fortunate to have a local cable provider that offers cable internet and DSL.

Comcast is moving into the area, spending a fortune putting lines in, but they're a little late since most people who have high speed around here are with the local outfit.

We recently switched from teleport dialup to comcast cable. Very nice. We went with the basic cable tv/internet package for about 55 bucks a month. Now we are looking at going to vonage for an internet based phone for another 25 bucks.

The total should be right at 80 bucks a month - 30 channels of cable, high speed internet, and unlimited local/regional w/ 500 monthly long distance. That works out well for us. We don't come near half that on long distance so we will save about 30 bucks compared to the old way w/o cable TV.

Comcast is indeed upping the rate, but you get a break if you also have TV cable - I think it's $45 (up from $40). The service is fast and stable though.

Comcast has an offer going on now.
6 months for $19.95 with any level of video service.
6 months for $29.95 without the video service
plus 3 dollars a month for modem rental.

depending on how computer savy you are no installation fee. Or $50.00 for professional installation.

Earthlink Bites!

I was a customer of a company called AA.Net that was purchased by Earthlink At the time of the purchase AA.net gave me the option to continue service with Earthlink . I declined. Some 4 months later Earthlink began billing me for an account that I did not even now I had. The only way I became aware of this was by the charges on my monthly statement. I attempted to contact there customer disservice people by phone. The wait time was never less than 30 minutes. I refused to stay on the line that long to resolve thier problem. I contacted them by e-mail and was informed that I couldn't close an account by e-mail, I had to call. I let them now that that was unreasonable (see above). In the meantime they billed me for another month. At this time I informed them and the Attorney General of the State of Washington of this situation. I let Earthlink know that they had one final chance to refund the charges and close the account prior to me reversing the charges through the credit card system (this is called a chargeback and not only is the vendor out the original charge but an additional $25) They were unresponsive. Then the Attorney General got involved. Earthlink e-mailed me and told me they would cancle the account and return the funds if I could give them the account number. Being as I never received anything from them, except the charges to my credit card, I was unable to provide that information. So I reversed the charges and closed the credit card account. About a month later I finaly got a statement from Earthlink billing me as my card had been declined. I now had the account number and went back to the customer disservice rep and the Attorney General with that info and finally got the account closed and the billing reversed.

In my opinion Earthlink is one of the WORST Businesses in the World.

This has been heavily censored in accordance with the aup ; )

There are some great resources to check out the quality, satisfaction and price of high speed internet services. I wouldn't drop cash on DSL, Cable or satelite before reviewing DSL Reports. The "CO Distance" is critical with DSL. This site is the Consumer Reports of high speed internet ... drill in and learn.

I've had qwest DSL for over a year, and access via dslnorthwest. Been very happy with the service from dslnorthwest, you actually get to talk to a real live person! Try that with any of the big companies.
