I fished Diamond Lake, for the past several days. Fishing was slow. Many boats anchored using powerbait (green powerbait seemed to be popular). We did see a boat trolling last evening that was nailing the fish. I don't know what they were using, and they were not sharing their secret. Lots of insects hatching on the lake, so fly fishing could be very tough. On the positive side, the fish we did catch were very healthy. Most looked like little footballs, about 15 to 16". Our biggest was 19" weighing a little less than 2 lbs and all putting up a nice fight.

Looked like there were two forrest fires going on to the South toward Crater Lake. Several helicopters taking water from the South end of Diamond lake. We drove up the Umpqua from Roseburg. I can't think of many rivers that are more beautiful!!

Be prepared to deal with insects.

I stopped by today on the way through and spoke with a young man who works for ODFW. He advised the fishing was fairly slow this past week and commented on the fact that no one was fishing the the south end for some reason. Maybe the helicopters dipping water had something to do with it but it appeared they had an area marked off for them to dip water. We have always caught fish on the south end in the weed beds regardless of how slow it has been.

Spent the last few days at Diamond. Fishing is slow. However, its still worth giving it a try. Fish in 30-35 feet of water with rainbow Power Bait and a chunk of worm and you should be dialed. Experiment with scents. We had our best luck fishing in the area they call the shrimp beds towards the Northern end of the lake. The mornings were the best unless the wind will lay down in the evening. Anchor both ends of the boat for and use a sliding egg sinker. All the fish we caught were dandy. 16 - 21 inches. Good luck!

Any word on Diamond Lake lately?

How are the mosquitoes?

Is there still a huge midge hatch?

Most importantly, how is the fishing?

The tips given will work right now at Diamond. If you can only go once then I would wait til sept or oct. It will be unreal there this fall.
