Who is your hero?
Who is the one person or persons who have had a positive influence on you or you admire the most?
I have a few so I'll list them here.
My grandmother- She lived to be almost 101 and was the ROCK of our family.Whe we were in the IU unit as my fahter lay comatose and dying it was her that held us together. She loved us all unconditionally and I am proud to have been her grandson.
My father - A member of the "greatest generation" who without questioning the reason answered his country's call and went off to war in 1942 like so many young men did. Dad had, like most of his generation, a very strong work ethic and grew up during the depression. He made sure his sons wanted for nothing. He died 30 years ago this July and I still think of him every day.
John F. Kennedy - Despite his flaws he was in my opinion a great leader. He faced down the Soviet missle threat in Cuba and saved us from possible nuclear holocaust. Who knows what direction the country would have taken if he had lived.
Sandy Koufax - For a young kid like me growing up in the 60's in LA he was larger than life. As dominating on the field as any pitcher in the history of major league baseball. Quiet and unassuming off the field. A real role model. He was a devout Jew and would not pitch on Yom Kippur even though it was the first game of the World Series.
My older brother Sam - He was everything I wasn't as a kid.High school football hero, all the girls liked him. Everything came easy for him and he distinguished himself as a decorated soldier in Vietnam. He is still my hero.
Okay how about you? Who are your heroes?
PLEASE do not bash someone if they pick someone you don't agree with....okay?
This isn't meant to be a Clinton or Bush bash so keep your negative opinions to yourself...please

Re: Who is your hero?
Ronald Reagan. He won the Cold War by convincing the Soviets that he would spend them into oblivion. It worked, and today we live in relative peace. Thank-you Ronnie!

Re: Who is your hero?
My wife. She rocks! With our both our first and second children, 24+ hours of labor, natural childbirth, no drugs, after Jr. comes out, she looks at me with a smile on her face and says "When can we have another?". And the second one was nine and a half pounds!
There is nobody, and I mean nobody else in the world who could top that.
Pope John Paul II. At his age and in his condition he is still writing, and still traveling. What he went through during WWII and in Poland under Communism is really something to read about. Some of his work is truly remarkable in its clarity and genius. He will have an enormous impact in theology and philosophy long after he's gone. His critique of the utilitarian view of ethics, written well prior to his becoming Pope was spot on, and in one afternoon of reading he completely changed my view of the subject, which I had developed in 4 years of study in college.
Ronald Reagan, the greatest president since Lincoln.

Re: Who is your hero?
My Dad....grew up in the depression, saw combat in the Philippines and on up to Okinawa, came out without a scratch, which I think really bothers him. He was one of 4 guys from his original company not to have been injured. He taught me everything.
My Mom....grew up in the depression and the dust bowl. Married my dad just before he left for the Philippines. Just like June Cleaver, except with a brain and she taught me everything, too.
Dick Butkus (sp) He was the definition of shock and awe on the football field. I tried to play like him in highschool, but couldn't stand the pain.
There are others

Re: Who is your hero?
An old freind of mine Pete Hill. He started flying DC3's when he was 15 delivering them to Hemingway. 1st test pilot of the Beech Staggerwing, 3rd helicopter licence, pilots licence signed by the orignal pilot (Orvil sp Wright) Set 5 world record in airplanes and that is just what he did before he was 25! Great hunter, fisherman, and had champion field trial dogs. He was a great freind of mine until he died at 89.

Re: Who is your hero?
to tell you the truth, without question right now I'd say it's my wife Meredith. Not only is she the most warm-hearted and generous person I know,
but she is couragously carrying my child inside of her. She's been such a trooper through all of this. One of those gals who finds a way to keep a postive outlook and attitude about just about everything. Her even being pregnant is a miracle in itself. My wife's love, and absolute stellar character have really help make me into the man I always wanted to be. And next week, the dad I always wanted to be. I thank her often from the bottom of my heart for all she's done and given to me and "us". She's my hero, without any doubt!

Re: Who is your hero?
My Grandpa on my Moms' side. He was at Normandy in WWII. He was a part of the greatest generation of the USA IMO.

My Dad, No body could even come close!!!!
I try, and can only hope that I have the same impact on my son. It's the reason I named my son after my Dad.

Re: Who is your hero?
sad as it is to say, i don't have any.
i've checked in on this post from time to time, hoping that someone else's heroes could be my own, but they are not. hoping that maybe someone else's heroes would show me the way to my own, but they haven't.
there are people i admire, respect and love, but no heroes.
so, what is it about your heroes that make them heroic for you? maybe i do have heroes and just don't know it.
