Default Drivers License Lady

Did any of you'll see the story about the Muslim woman in Florida who is sueing the state for violating her religious rights? She refused to remove her vail (sp?) for her drivers license picture.

While Florida has a responsibility to respect her rights, I believe she should also appreciate the circumstances and comply with the need to have proper identification. I don't mean to step on anyone's toes, just thought it was an interesting dilema.

You want to remain veiled, fine, stay that way, but you aren't getting a valid state ID.

States do require a person to carry valid picture identification however.

The funny thing is, this lady grew up in the states and converted to Islam in her 20's. The thought of taking her veil off for a picture ID shouldn't be such a big deal.

I looked for the original thread on this, but it must have been nuked. It was about 3-4 months ago, and it degenerated into the usual slam-and-whine-fest.

I saw this somewhere on the web listed as one of the more famous "web-rumors". Can't remember where, but the gist was it is an uncomfirmed rumor generated on the web. Unless someone has a link to an article? Wish I could remember where I saw that. It was a site specializing in confirming or disproving popular rumors. There were a bunch of other ones that make the rounds as well.

I think it was a legit news story, and there was a thread started by one of our right-wing brethren whose name escapes me. Like I said, it got rather heated, and I'm assuming it got deleted by one of our beleaguered moderators.

I heard someone on a talkshow a few days ago make the point that if he was in a particular branch of Zen Bhuddist he really does not EXIST so his photo should be left blank.....

Reported in yesterdays paper: The judge ruled no photo, no license. The need of the people for security outweighed the individuals right to religious freedom. Of course, she is free to retain her religious zeal, she'll just be walkin'!

Good, if she doesn't follow the rules, then tough. She can ride the bus. I am not dogging her religious beliefs, but that is ridiculous.
