Default Electric trolling motors??

Hi Gang!!

I am looking to buy a transum mounted electric trolling motor 55#/12v for my 12' folding porta-bote.

I am stuck between the Minn Kota and Motorguide. My price range is around 300.00.

Have any of you experienced problems, like electrical failures, with any models?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Joel

They are both good units. Put service first, so you dont have to mail it or drop it off for two months.

My experience has been with minnkota. If you can get the continuous throttle, instead of speed switches go that route. Smooth and they dont create wear on the notched settings. Hang onto your oars. If you fish all day, into the wind, big lakes, get a group 29 deep cycle.

Thanks for the input!!
I ended up purchasing a Minn Kota Endura 50#/12v for my boat.
I still need to get the battery, a charger, and probably a suggested 60 amp breaker for the motor. The factory recommends this for safety.I'm figuring a battery carrying box with meter should help too...

Definately having the oars in the boat. You never know when you may need them!!

Thanks a lot!!
