Default What are your fish catching percentages in relation to lures you used this season?

I decided to do a little research on what lures have been most effective in catching fish so far this season for my daughter and me. Our results are as follows:

Total # of fishing outings: 9
Total # of fish caught: 35 (All from the shore)

Lure/Technique Used this season - Quantity of Fish Caught – Percentage

Jig and Trailer - 1 – 3% (eg, the jig and trailer caught only one bass so far, which accounts for 3% of the fish we caught)
Crankbait - 3 - 8.5%
Spinnerbait/Inline Spinner – 0 – 0
Hard Jerk/Slash Bait – 0 – 0
Popper– 0 – 0
Drop Shot – 31 – 88.5%

We believe that we gave all of these techniques a fair shake, but who is to say? We all know the feeling when using techniques that aren’t working; we tend to switch to our comfort/confidence techniques to get ourselves some positive results. Granted, I love to use the drop-shot technique because of its effectiveness. So was the drop shot that effective or have I been too dependent on it? On the other side of the coin, the fish have been telling me what they were willing to strike. I don’t think I can force them to take a jig or a spinnerbait because I want to catch them with it.

What lures have been most productive for you this season and are they the lures that inspire confidence in you? That too would be an interesting tidbit to uncover. Perhaps the lures or techniques we find our most productive are the ones we use the most.

One of the reasons I am tracking this is to see what lures and techniques I might also need to invest some time with.

No topwater yet. Use on three separate outings and one, it was all I used. Gut feeling said topwater, fish said not today.

It just means that it hasn't (but it will) yet worked for us. I can't wait for my daughter to get her first topwater smash.

Oh, and one more thing. I didn't note catches with scent used and not used. That might have been an interesting tidbit.

After months of looking at tons of threads and not opening an account. Here is my first reply. Hence my title name I have caught just about every sm in my life off a tube worm. I spend tons of money on other lures but end up consistenly catching them on gizits. I love the dark green or bluesmoke for the John day, I recently got into a new color for the Willamette and Columbia called old ugly (green). Umpqua white flukes.

I hope to get some pictures up soon for you all as I learn this sites features. As well I hope to get to learn, share and become friends with you all through this great pastime.

Welcome!!! Yours is a very interesting trend. I have never caught a bass or any kind of fish on a tube no matter how hard I've tried and yet it is your bread and butter.

The smallies I target also seem to like greens. I look forward to seeing posts with your pics.

IB.....its funny.....Almost all of your fish this year have come off the d-shot. I can count on one hand in my life how many i've caught off of Dropshotting!.....Almost all of my fish this year have been on Tubes, or Prop baits.

85% on tubes. 15% on prop baits.
