Surgery :-)
Had my back surgery yesterday everything went great. The doc said when he opened me up,he found a more damage then the MRI showed.Repaired them and stitched me back up.Whatever he did was good,I've aready got most of the strength back in my right leg, feel pretty good not much pain.If things keep going good, I'll be back on the river by the middle of June FISHING
this has been the longest 2 1/2 months of my life.
Being cooped up in the house for that long was really getting to me.So I hope to see some of you on the river soon. !!!

That's good to hear Bob!
Ok now, follow the dotors and therapist orders. Take your meds. Rest and relax. The fish will be there when you get better.
We had two guys go through the same deal at work. Both of them had to stay out a couple extra weeks because they thought they were go to go before the Doctor released them.
R&R Bob.

Re: Surgery :-)
I had two disks removed a little more than a year ago. The doc took me by the sholders and looked me in the eyes and said"you have exactly one chance to heal correctly, if you screw it up you will pay for it the rest of your life" I too spent the longest year of my life wishing i could do all the things ive done my entire life.
The year of healing is now over and im feeling like the extra caution and wait was well worth it.
I have years of recovery left ,,, but , im getting better and enjoying every minute of it.
Be paient ,,, like someone said the fish will be there when you are ready, no need to hurt yourself. id. p.

That is so good to hear, Bob!
Way to go! Now be good to you, and like they say, don't screw it up! No big fish for you for a while. Hand them off to us!

Re: Surgery :-)
I had back surgury this past fall. In 2 or 3 weeks, you will feel like you are back to close to 100%. All or most of the nerve pain will gone and she surgury pain will be nearly gone as well, whatever you do, Don't push it. Just curious, where did you have your operation and who was your doc?

Re: Surgery :-)
I have a coworker who was having chronic pain due to something with her back. She recently had surgery, and now is without pain and feels great. Glad to hear that surgery works!

Re: Surgery :-)
I had my surgery at Southwest Washington Medical
at the Rebound Clinic,in Vancouver,Wa.
Dr Rokosz, young guy.He did an excellent job,I never once had any back pain from the surgery.
BUT!!!,every muscle in my body was in pain nothing I couldn't deal with.I found out that was a common reaction to the anathesia,I guess when they put you under your muscles contract like a cramp it took about three days to get where I could walk normal. The more I walked the better they felt.TODAY NO PAIN !!!! at all I really feel good, the best in a long time. Now its just a waiting game should be able to start fishing by the middle of June(I hope)might have to have a little help dealing with the anchor guess the guys in the fire dept will have to start fishing a little more and dealing with the anchor

Re: Surgery :-)
Bob,
I had back surgery in Feb of 2000. My best advice to you is to follow your Dr's orders and take it easy. Go to therapy and don't push your recovery time.
I went back to work 2 weeks after surgery on a "light" work status and back to a full work schedule about 6 weeks after that. It feels good to be pain free now, but you can ruin it in a hurry if you push your recovery time!
Best of luck! SD

Re: Surgery :-)
ibeanfishing,I believe its spagetti and beer dogs ??.I hope,I can make it to the derby this year,I missed last year because of my back.Right now I'm not allowed to drive I guess because of the pain pills, but I haven't had to take any since the second day after surgery in fact I've never had any pain from the surgery my back felt great from the time I woke up.The only pain I had was from sore muscles(really sore),the nurse told my wife that was a common reaction from the drugs they gave during me surgery. Its really hard staying in the house in this great weather we've been haveing. My buds that are fishing the Washougal are catching STEELHEAD !!! they've been running 15#'s and I can't go :depressed:
its killing me.I'll be able to fish pretty soon tho.I walk around the block twice a day which is good for me.I hope to meet you at the derby.
Bob

Re: Surgery :-)
Glad to hear that you are feeling better Dawhunt. I too have undergone back pain and injury but was able to heal the injury with therapy and specific exercises. The message that you are hearing from most people on this thread is the most important: do NOT strain yourself and push yourself along too fast. You'll learn that you will be able to do a lot of what you did before if you allow your body to heal properly and get back into physical endeavors if you treat each one as if it was the first time you've ever done it. Go slow and let the people around you know about your condition so that they can help you out. Most people are very accommodating. Good luck.
JPSFishy, have you seen a chiropractor? Don't knock it unless you've given it a try. You should pursue all other possible remedies before opting for surgery. yes, this includes daily exercises (gut muscles), diet, and stretching. Better than having all that pain to deal with though.
E-mail me if either of you have any questions that a former sufferer or patient can answer for you. Luke

Re: Surgery :-)
I too healed my first injury with exercise.Herniated disk in my neck.
If your injury has anything to do with your spine (numbness , eletrical shock, loss of control of things) go get it fixed or at least have an M.R.I. done and read by a neuro- doc.
I was convinced that i didnt want sergury and was willing to do anything to avoid it.
I am now crippled for life because of that fear.
The sergury was way less recovery time , pain, and heart ach than a life time of stumbling, falling , freezing, ect... ect.... Personally , i wouldnt go to a chiropractor (sp) . I know two people who were partly paralized by them. They both had serious spinal situations and the (Doc)?? went ahead and started cracking thier back with out an X-ray. my .02 cents. id. p.
