Topic Terror
Jennie coined that phrase (Topic Terror) and I like it.
Here's a little something *supposedly* from Andy Rooney. Apologies if it turns out someone else wrote it. That's not the point. The point is there are some wonderful truths here... (Mods: if you feel like you need to mod, mod away  If the post gives you grief, please just delete it) -
If it offends anyone, I deeply apologize.
There! That said, please enjoy...
I like big cars, big boats, big motorcycles, big houses and big campfires.
I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some governmental stooge with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts for squirting out babies.
Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer.
You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.
I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts!
I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.
When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the
Law of Probability.
I know what sex is, and there are not varying degrees of it. If I received sex from one of my subordinates in my office, it wouldn't be a
private matter or my personal business. I would be "FIRED" immediately!
I believe that if you are selling me a milk shake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!
My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.
I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry self if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.
I feel much safer letting a machine with no political affiliation recount votes when needed. I know what the definition of lying is.
I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.
We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could
come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.
I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television.. That doesn't stop you from watching them.
I believe a self-righteous liberal or conservative with a cause is more dangerous than a Hell's Angel with an attitude.
I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building. Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you.
It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"
"I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home
until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me french fries!
I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.

Re: Topic Terror
It is Andy Rooney. I heard it a couple of weeks ago.
I think it may have been embellished a bit, though.
I agree whole heartedly with some of it... some, like STG, nassomuch.
It is interesting though, and I'd bet (Good or bad, right or wrong) most of America would agree with most of it.

Trying to get a rise out of the mods??? To inflame maybe?
Get a double handed grip on your underwear......I agree with a lot of what whoever wrote that wrote. As STG said, some...not so much.
I do believe in being tolerant of others and other opinions, even when they are trying to inflame.
Thought police....yeah, right.

Re: Topic Terror
I wish we could all get over the "thought police" and "liberal bias" of the moderators. That kind of whining is an example of a victim mentality and reflects a LOSING attitude. Regardless of whether there is a bias or not, I have noticed that if you support your argument and don't make it personal, your opinion will stand as posted. The mods are doing a job I would not be willing to do and they do it very well.
I am more conservative than most all of you, BTW.
Regarding PM's post, I am pretty much OK with all but giving the police more power to shoot citizens. If they do that, due process becomes pretty meaningless.
I would also add that when we violate the spirit of the constitution by aiding governments which don't have a strict separation of church and state, we are sowing the seeds of terrorism.

Re: Topic Terror
Thank you sweetie, once again I get to admire your big brass ones.
The funny thing is that alot of people are walking around with those very thoughts in their heads. But we are all beat down and to some degree intimidated by the culture of 'PC' that has taken over our society. The American ethic of work hard and be rewarded is becoming the society of whine hard and be sent a government check every month.
At times it seems to me that far too many people are busy applying for 'victim' status and not using the tools they were given at birth to make their way in the world.
Gotta love Andy Rooney, loveable old curmudgeon that his is and a great American.

I have to say he had some guts saying that. I am surprised not many people have spoken up on this issue. They are probably afraid of being labeled. It truly is not fair to all people.

Re: Topic Terror
Fishing Geek, I think PM was refering to the fact that "girls" want to join the boy scouts which should be limited to boys and girls to the girl scouts. The UNCF is discriminatory because a white person cannot apply. Could you imagine what kind of outrage would be vented if you had a United Caucasions College Fund???? Or how about a National Association for the Advancement of Caucasions???? They would be called "White Supremists"! Doesn't that make the NAACP and UNCF "black Supremists"? I'm by no means advocating any such thing, I just think it is so hipocritical to say it is okay for one race to discriminate and not the other. I believe the NAACP is a racially prejudice organization. NOw this is not a racial slur. Just a statement of opinion and fact.
An I think PM was "right on"!

Re: Topic Terror
Gender segregation has its place. With young developing children, each type of traditional organization has its place. Why would a girl need to develop skills that will take them into a successful adult malehood? Why would a boy need to develop skills that will carry them into a successful womanhood?
Kids need to learn to bond with other kids of their same gender.
Girls don't need to get involved in the Boyscouts to learn important life skills. Girlscouts and Campfire Girls give them those opportunities. It's more about what individual troop or group you're involved in. As a Campfire Girl, I had the opportunity to learn such important skills as fire-making, purifying water to drink, wilderness survival, knot tying, first aide, etc. 9 of us girls did a 40 mile backpacking trip through Yosemite. We were in the wilderness for 9 days. I didn't have to be allowed to join the Boyscouts to do that... in fact, I didn't know a Boyscout troop at the time (or since for that matter) that did anything close to that.
I was also involved in an organization called Jobs Daughters. One of the many goals of that organization was to turn out poised, gracious, responsible, confident young women. (no cracks about what it didn't do for me, please! ) There is nothing in that organization that would have been appropriate for boys and YES - We girls in both organizations had need and occasion for dressing and undressing in front of eachother.
Besides, would you have your daughter going off on a camp-out with a group of boys and an all-male leadership in this day and age? Heck, I'd have trouble sending my boy off like that (oh, I'm gonna catch it now, aren't I?)
I'm all for boys and girls having equal opportunity. But we DO. I didn't have to be allowed to join the Boyscouts to run with the boys. I do that now just fine largely because of the opportunities I had in a GIRLS only organization.
I'll get off the hood of the pickup now.

I think he's pointing out the irony of the crack I made at myself about the organization's success or failure in meeting it's goals with me  Actually, I am a quite successful individual today. Adaptable and appropriate in most business and social situations largely because of my experience in Jobs Daughters. It's a wonderful organization (or was... I have no current knowledge) that afforded me some awesome opportunities.

We made that decision as a nation about 40 years ago. The ladies still have their "Ladies Room", but the blacks no longer have their "Blacks Only" room. Seems reasonable.
