Reasons English is so hard to learn
Got his one emailed to me. What others can you think of?
21 REASONS WHY THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS HARD TO LEARN?
1) The bandage was wound around the wound.
2) The farm was used to produce produce.
3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4) We must polish the Polish furniture.
5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to
present the present.
8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10) I did not object to the object.
11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
13) They were too close to the door to close it.
14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.
19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?
It is bad enough when different words are spelled the same, baut add in when the SOUND the same and things start to get REALLY confusing!
Here's a few more:
22) He bet a buck that his friend could not shoot a buck.
23) He was bare and did not bare arms when the bear appeared.
24) He was not conscious, so there was not a way his conscience could be bothered.
25) He rode hard down the road.
26) She broke the bill of the stuffed duck and was presented with a bill for repair.
27) If I had to, I too could carry two of those.
28) They're going to cast their poppers over there.
29) His deep bass voice scared the bass.
30) Is that reel real?

I used to work with quite a few Russians and they'd be asking questions about different words and stuff.
In their frustration they'd kiddingly give me a hard time and act like it was my fault.
I'd tell them "don't blame me, I didn't invent the danged mess!!" LOL

31) Oh crumb, I am down to my last crumb.

My mum sent me these. She recently had her car worked on. Must be on her mind still:
49) An officer wearing a shield ticketed my windshield.

53) This year I collected a bumper crop of Audi bumpers.

Apparently there is nothing that Natural Language cannot do, including answering the age-old woodchuck question. Access The Wall Street Journal database (WSJ) and enter the above question, verbatim, as a Natural Language search. The answer, 700 pounds, is in the first document retrieved. New York state wildlife expert Richard Thomas bases his solution of 700 pounds on the following equation:
"Since the woodchuck basically throws the soil backwards, and the question doesn't specify the size of the wood to be chucked, we can compare the earth moved to the wood chucked."
