Default Rose Festival "Host a Sailor" Program Scrapp

Due to increased security in the wake of recent events, only three Navy ships will atend this years Rose Festival activities and the popular "Host a Sailor" program has been scrapped.

The Oregonian noted that people requesting tours of the Navy vessels will have to sign up in the morning for afternoon tours.

The Coast Guard has not announced how many ships it will be sending but it appears that they are not subject to the same restrictions.

That hurts. :depressed: Especially since Portland, Oregon is the number one liberty port in the world for the Navy. That's saying something.

My first Rose Festival was on the U.S.S St. Louis in 1972 after returning from Vietnam.

Treat em' good. They deserve it and the rest. Every ship and crew has accomplished something special to have been selected for the Rose Festival.

Go Navy!

What a shame, I am from Portland/Tigard, and in 1969 the ship USS Brush I was on was invited to the Rose Bash.
I took guys all over town, they said they never hade so much fun, and the women (they are friendly).
It's a shame that this world cant get along, and now becouse of 9/11 this program well be scrape, it's a shame.
