Default Sportjet warning tones

while heading back in today from an afternoon of fishing heard a beep - beep - beep , 3 beeps. slowed down to idle seemed ok but would return again as soon as i applied throtle for about 30 seconds.....did this a few times and since i was just about in to the ramp just idled it in the rest of the way althought it beeped at me at idle just before i got in....

this engine is a 2002 mercury 200hp optimax sportjet and has run perfectly since i got it!

what is the warning tone? my guess is that it is either low oil tone or overheating tone or ??

i did add oil to the res. today before heading out so i know its plenty full.

i checked under the boat after i pulled it out and other than a few pieces of grass could not see any obstructions anywhwere

anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Sounds to me like the low oil indicator. On my SJ 175 there is a float in the oil tank that triggers the alarm. What I can't recall is if it's in the reserve oil reservoir or in the main oil tank. It may be in the reserve.

Good Luck!

More than likely has water in the filter on the engine. You should be able to dump it out and reinstall it

in the process of double checking the oil res. both the primary and the engine mounted one to make sure i tightened the primary res. cap correctly ( sealed ) i know its tight just need to make sure it is sealed since i did open it and top the oil yesterday before i went out.

had not considered the filter? althought there was absolutely no loss of power whatsoever... would there be some symptoms / something noticeable if water was in fact in the filter? there was no miss or anything wierd just the beep beep beep and that was not even a steady stream of beeps just 3x then it seemed ok but then would return again a few minutes later.....

The filter has a water sensor in it. It will run fine until it's totally full of water. You need to dump it out for the alarm to quit

I can tu from experience it is the low oil alarm. If you did not top off the reserve tank it will continue to beep. It will not fill itself to make the alarm go off. I found out the hard way,
