Thumbs down tough night on the water

Willy Salem 4pm-8:30pm
Oh what a day on the river. Started off fishing an incoming creek. I usually don’t do well in this spot during the summer but I thought with the rain we had this weekend that maybe the fish would move in there. Nope. We took off down river on our way to the next spot and run across a jet skier in distress stranded along the bank. His motor had died and he needed a tow upriver to the launch. FYI, I hate jet skiers to begin with but I tossed him a rope and he tied it off to a rope he had tied onto his jet ski. I had backseater sit up on the front deck to keep the front of my boat down so that we could make it though the shallow water without toasting my prop. Well thankfully we made it though the shallow part and dragged the jet ski about a ½ mile back to the launch. When we get there he can’t get the knot undone so he ask me for a knife. After I was kind enough to rescue him and waste 20 minutes of fishing time, who’s rope did he cut? Yup, the guy cut my rope. Did I mention I hate jet skiers?

So back down river we go and it is time to get back to fishing. I go to cast and I can’t get the trigger on my Curado to disengage. I keep trying to push the button but it just won’t release. I fumble around with it while trying to hold us on the spot and Combat Chuck hooks and lands the first fish of the trip. I give up on the reel and switch to another rod I already have rigged with a speed trap. We are not getting anymore fish so I take the lipless I had tied onto my broken reel and tie it onto a good rod and reel. OK now we will start getting fish. Wrong. We ended up moving around quite a bit but just never found the fish.

In the end my backseater got 3 smallies and 1 ********* all on a spinnerbait. I got skunked. It is normal for a first time backseater in my boat to get the biggest fish of the trip but rare that they will actually out fish me. And this is the first time I have been skunked this year.

Sounds like tough outings the last 2 times...
I was out there, too, and only got 1 dink, though there were alot of other dinks pecking at my bait. I'm thinking maybe the cold front on Sunday shut them down.

God's way of punishing you for helping a jet skier! The sound of a knife cutting thru your rope should be immediately followed by the sound of an oar breaking over the jerks head!

I always look forward to your posts 1bigfish, this is where I normally fish as well. The spot you towed him from, is it over 2 feet deep still? I'm headed there tomorrow and would like to go down further without risking my prop. I have several new crankbaits I want to try!!!

What did you think he was going to do with the knife Dave?

On another forum some one brought up the idea of a paintball gun.
Paintballs balls would leave evidence. Do they make a paintball that is filled with water instead of paint? It might leave a bruise but no paint.

After the rain we got on Sunday the water was up a little from where it was the week before. It was over 2 feet deep but not by much. I would say 30inches.

Personally if someone helped me out I would have cut my own rope but hey that just me. I pretty much knew that he would choose to cut my rope instead of his and if I would have really cared I would have never handed him the knive. I would have just reached over and cut his rope.

BassinFever, You know where I fish. Do you think any of those wake boats are brave enough to make it down to my spots. But yes I fish those spots in part just to get away from them.
