IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
O.K.
Been doing a little thinking on this one...Since Catch & Eat (Bernie) organized the Sturgeon Challenge & B & B (Bobby Ray) is organizing the Steelhead Challenge...I think it is time to start organizing the Spring Salmon Callenge...
Saturday April 10th is looking like a good date in regards to tides IMHO...
Here are the Tides for St. Helens that day:
High - 8:27 AM
Low - 6:10 PM
I propose I will organize this event (As long as we have a set of base rules) and have Plaques made for the winners...The rules can be drafted and sent out very soon.
I propose teams of (3) and the winners being declared with the most weight and also have a plaque made for the big fish as well...
I know a place that can make plaques at a decent price in Hillsboro so I can take care of that part... So 4 Plaques total (Biggest Fish & Most Weight by a 3 person Team)
OK... Let me hear your thought's/Questions/Comments/Concerns...

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
That sounds like fun. Where would be a good meeting place?
I think I could get together a missfit crew.

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
Sounds good to me! I bet I can get a team together in the boat that I stole from Time Off! As stated in the steelhead derby thread, build it, and they will come!

TCM, we are going to have to split up and get an extra person each for this one. More chances at the prize............

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
Hmmm, I guess I sorta agree with Bobby on this one, maybe we should try and keep TCM seperated, BUT, four guys to a boat seems sorta like the norm. I know we usually fish four Either way, we're in.

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
4 is fine but then lets do this as well...
Since 4 has an advantage in regards to total weight vs. 3... Then lets do average weight per person so we can level the playing field...only because some people may only be able to fish 3 people...
Big fish still gets a prize but I can get 5 plaques made instead of 4...
Does that sound fair

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
It is great to see someone step up to the plate and get this started.
I propose that we meet at Sand Island as we did the last two years unless we can come up with a location with a large covered shelter like a fairgrounds. That would have room for all the boats and trailers. Hopefully we could still set up a BBQ grille or something like that. Is there a shelter and fairgrounds in ST Helens or Scappppoooossse?
Believe me, this group has some real cooks that know how to BBQ. It is always great to gather and meet everyone, share some food and tell a few fish stories about the one that got away. Then there is the people that just couldn't make the weigh in on time but would have won had they showed up.
Come on out and lets have a great time again.
Did I here someone say THREEPEAT winners for this year. Same team has won the last two years. Good luck to all.

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
I think that there is a covered area at Scappoose Bay Marina for BBQ. I can check into it when I get back. The Fair grounds may be booked up already, I know that the following weekend is the Scappoose Booster Salmon Derby.

Snapshot, I'm scouting ONEPEAT's killing grounds tomorrow. I'll let you know how it looks. TWOPEAT is currently toxic so skip that. I feel that THREEPEAT comin! Carrot Shmarrot. They're gonna turn their head and cough on this one.

I may have to put a team together for this one. Three person teams sounds like a better idea to me though. Doesn't really matter though, sounds like a good time to me.

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
I take it Sand Island has plenty of access
Can you camp...Do they have toilets, running water, does it cost anything ????
Help me out here people because I was thinking we could just meet at the Scappoose Bay Marina, weigh fish there by 5:00 PM & have a few barbies going at the shelter they have there...
Your thoughts & Ideas are welcome...

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
This idea rocks. Saturday the tenth sounds awesome to me.
I don't have this fishery dialed in by no means so I will either need to hitch a ride with someone who does or have someone in my boat to give out the orders that does. Either way Tacklebuster is game

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
Rock on!! Springer challenge sounds good! I second the Scapoose Bay Marina weigh in by 5:00 and then BBQ at the shelter!! Seems like that would be the easiest IMHO. I can make some calls to the marina and see what I can do if you need me to Terry. Let me know!

Sounds like a fun event.. i was wondering does anyone have any open seats left? I would greatly contribute towards expenses (gas, bait, etc..). I would like to fish in a bigger boat then my 14ft Zode..

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
Kerry,
I will see TB tonight and I think we would make a good trio...
However, for the sake of having more Ifishers attend this outing, I think we may want to take both our boats so we can fish more people...
I will discuss this with him tonight...I really want to see everyone who wants to participate get a ride...so we will discuss this tonight...

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
I suggest that one of the members on each team should be a new member of Ifish. If there are 20 teams, there should be 1 fry for each team. There are many new Ifishers that would like to enjoy getting out there and having fun with the veterans of Ifish. There are alot of people on Ifish that have their so called clan of friends. It would be nice for new members to be able to have the same chance as the veterans have. This should be fun for everyone!!!!

I'll be there boys and I will make no braggin about getting a springer though but chances are good that I will, maybe. Plan it Terry but keep it simple so there wont be to much crying by mal-contents. Sand Island has what you need; docks, potty, covered area just bring the BBQ. Perhaps you can talk BOE into bringing his for the day.

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
I agree with YarnDog that we should get as many new Ifishers out as possible...
I know many will go without a boat ride that day and I think those of us with boats should make an effort to accommodate as many of those who don't have a boat as possible...
Chris, PM me if you want a ride...That is if you can put up with me again...
As for Sand Island vs. Scappoose Marina...River Liver is checking on some things for me so stay tuned... I don't care personally but for the purpose of Logistics, lets pick the best spot because of the other remote locations that may be used as put ins...

TOO FAR!! It's quite a run from Cathedral Park to Sand Island! It would be much easier for you to launch at St. Helens or Scapoose Bay. Just my .02

C+E, SHHHHHHHHH! We don't want her to know, you don't know what it's like as she sit there reading some love novel snacking on Cheetos and everyone is watching HER rod! ahhhh!
Then comes the tears, first on Fishalot, then Sneakyone and so on. And I have to live with the guilt of being responsible for ruining everyones day.
They give me that "please make her stop", look!
I'll be suggesting that it would be an ideal day to have her nails done!

Hey Tilla,
I mention fishing to my wife and she is happier than a Hollywood Actress with a fresh Divorce...
This means she gets an all day movie pass for the Lifetime Network....
Man, do any of your wives' get into that network...Man, if there is one thing I struggle with, its the battle of who gets to watch what, ESPN or Lifetime Network for Women...
I have to invest in that "Duel LNB" for my sattelite dish very soon, and get her TV hooked up in the bedroom

I'm ready to go, I'll get Scott in training and I'll have to get hold of the cryogenics lab and have them start the thawing process on Clownmouth

Re: IFish Spring Salmon Challenge
Will Mrs. Tilla be available that day Glenn? If so she can be on my boat anytime. She is the salmon slayer of all women . You'd be a fool not to have her on your team this year, just cut Fishalot or the Sneaky one and your boys/girls will be in the money.
BTW Team Catch and Eat will be there with crow feathers in hand as usual.
