Default ODOT n Fishin

Just got my first week in with ODOT. I will run the Snooper crane (only one in the state) for bridge inspections. Went up the goerge to The Dalles this week and looked over the John Day and the Deschutes river bridges. Can see that travel rods will be in my pack from here on.
Crap...can you tell, I'm gunna have a blast with this!

Congrats on the neat job!

Sounds like you're gonna need a pretty long-handled net though.

We will expect up-to-date reports, and will need to know your whereabouts at all times.

Your'e likely to run out of bait and tackle before you run out of bridges to inspect in this state. It seems they find a couple more broken bridges every month. :depressed:

Hey John, so you aren't going to work for Louis Kurth any more? I was hoping Kilgore-Blackman would have you guys do more demolition so we could talk some fishing. You will just have to stop by and say hi and get a fishing report when you are in Salem. Good luck with the new job, Corby.

Thanks Corby, Yea I won't be a stranger. Louis is hiring back an operator that showed me the ropes years ago and I'll be doing some moonlighting. But I will be dropping in once in a while for a live report! < )))><

My dad used to be a project manager down in region 3 (Roseburg) back in the 70s, before getting "promoted" to full-time desk jockey in Salem. Field checking all the project sites was a great way to get out and see a lot of the rivers down there, to scope for fishing opportunities later on.

He has a story about one time they were down inspecting a project near Powers on the SF Coquille, and someone noticed the state vehicle and came up to report a "shark" sighting in one of the local swimming holes. They went down to check it out, and discovered a big sturgeon milling around--apparently it had wandered up too far during higher water and gotten stuck.

Must be nice to work outside, at least when the weather isn't too bad...
