Wouldnt it make more sense to only spend $40?

Nice find, CT. They're Reseller Rating is currently 8.19 out of 10, but with a Return for Replacement rating of 4.38 that raises some red flags.

Its $40. If you're gonna need to return it, you should even buy one.

For a 30% savings, I'd roll the dice. The math is against Epson.

Besides, what's Epson's rating?

Epson isn't a reseller, so their ratings are stale. The extended warranty is a good deal, too.

You're right, though. For $40, maybe it is worth the attempt.

Agreed. Besdies, for all we know, Epson could have an even worse return history.

Geek,

The missing link (from Epson web site):

"Refurbished Products: These are products that have been returned to Epson. They have been inspected and tested to ensure they perform properly. Some may have minor blemishes due to handling. They are available only while quantities last. Refurbished printers may or may not contain a media pack or the same software package as new models. Because these products are discounted to move final quantities, we do not accept returns on these items except if product arrives defective in which case your remedy is replacement with the same model or equivalent."

Key sections:

1) Refurbished printers may or may not contain a media pack or the same software package as new models.

2) we do not accept returns on these items except if product arrives defective

So if it arrives seemingly ok, but on day 5 of use it shuts down, you are hosed. The other site sounds like it would give you a chance. Who knows. Refurb's are always a roll of the dice.

Ah, but the webpage for the refurbished scanner itself, under the detailed description, does say that it has a 1 year limited warranty. And it is actually the page to the refurbished scanner and not just the new one (I checked to make sure). So, they're 1 year. If in doubt, the buyer could print the page.

Default Need a new photo scanner?

A friend of mine asked about a good photo scanner and I came across a good deal at Epson's website. Epson regularly has the best-rated home-use scanners around, and right now in their online store in the Clearance Center they have a refurbished Perfection 1250U for only $59 with free UPS ground shipping. They come with a 1 year warranty, with another year available for $30.

I've got a 2 year old Epson scanner and it's both fast and produces great results. Highly recommended scanners. I won't buy their printers ever again, though.
