Default Friday Sturgeon

It was a beautiful day, after the downpour ended in the morning. Got a late start and hit the usual haunts on the MC. Only a few boats. Right off the bat boated a 47 inch, then about half an hour later my wife mentioned that her rod was twitching. I sorta woke up and said "why don't you set the hook?" She did and all you could hear was line screaming off the reel. She fought it for about 20 minutes and when it came to the boat I wasn't sure if we should measure it or release it. I tried to get the net on it, but it was too big. Got a good measure in the water and I'm sure it was legal size, long side of 58" and a real fatty. Tried the net again, no go. Tailed it and grabbed the leader to hoist it in the boat. Leader snapped and I got tail whipped real good, fish gone :depressed: Needless to say, me and the dog are sharing his house tonight. After that we caught several shakers, tho the boat next to us must have caught the same fish 100 times as they were constantly reeling in little ones.

Were in 50 feet of water just upstream of a deep hole, using Dipnets Pickled Smelt. Have a good weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Thats really to bad. Just tell her you did that so you can come back and get it when it is 60 inches.

As a suggestion get a good set of sticky gloves on or steel gloves and maybe the tail won't slip next time. I have used them for years and(knock on wood)havn't lost one that way yet.

Good luck and keep it up. It is neet to see the women doing it that well.

Way to go moma!!
I was down at the railroad bridge and sat my pole down to help my bud get a fatty over the side of the boat when a klunking behind me almost sent me over the side,
(7'sturdy stick headed towords St johns at a high rate of speed)
If anyone hooks on to this I would shure like to get it back so I could add to the story.
thanks Walleyed

Great Day all in all
Better you than me, my wife would have gave me
a good punch and made me sleep outside and the dog would get my side of the bed

Sounds like Friday was the day to be fishing!!! I fished around k.p. late in the day and the bite really turned on about 5pm. Numerous multipul hook ups!!! Gonna try down by Longview tomorrow...do a little springer action as well.

Yes, I have one of those sticky gloves...didn't help much. Thought the fish broke my wrist when he (it) whipped its tail and got out of dodge. I made up for it tho...but thats another post
