Re: What kind of leader are you?
Clearly, this post relates to public, not military life!
For example persuasion. In public life, a leader might try and persuade his employees to work harder through incentives, and "strokes".
In the military it's: "Hey you pussbelleyed SOB!!! MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE!!!!!!! (Insert boot squarely in rump here) MOVE MOVE MOVE!!!!!!!!
In public life, their are laws that dictate leadership decorum, in the military there are ways of life. Every other word can be a cuss word, and if you are not motivated by a Drill Sargeant's speech--he will find another, far worse way to motivate you.
The one thing that you can count on though--he may not be a real sweet guy, but he has your safety at heart, and probably cares more about you than you'll ever know.
Maybe that's why I am such a crass SOB! Crass, yes, but a succesful leader in the right circle of people, and loyal as your labrador.
That is what I see as truly important leadership qualities. I don't care what you call me--cover my back, and be there for me if I need you (reciprocal of course), and you have the best kind of leadership, and relationship there is. One you can bet your life, not just your livelihood on.
