Default Three cents a minute for long distance

No, I'm not going to come over to your house to show you my MLM long distance plan. This is legit. I was at Costco yesterday and they have MCI prepaid long-distance cards. Six hundred-seventy minutes for $20, which comes out to about three cents a minute. No connection fees, no weekly fees, no extra fees.

I've seen some other cards at convenience stores that tout one cent per minute rates. Those are true, if you use the entire card at a time (talking for 8 hours, for example). Otherwise, you get weekly costs that subtract money from the card, or with one card I saw they actually take 25% of the remaining minutes off your card at the end of each call. In the end, they cost more. MUCH more.

They also had a deal where you could buy 14 individually-wrapped 120 minute cards for $50, which comes up even cheaper if you want to go that route, or if you want to give them as a gift or whatever.

That's cheaper than any long-distance plan that I've seen that doesn't require you to use at least X minutes a month. I honestly think that I'm going to drop my long distance plan for these cards.

Just a heads up on a good deal.

Geek - We used the costco calling cards for several months and I got tired of dialing all the numbers to make the call. First you dial up the provider (11 numbers), plug in about a 10 digit code, then the 11 numbers you want to dial. I dont know the exact cost but dial tone and local calls was still costing us around thirty something, plus the few dollars we paid in long distance our bill came to around $45 - 50 a month.

We have since switched to MCI's "The Neighborhood plan". Flat $49 a month, for local and long distance. Call any time all you want, all you want, for $49 and you got no other charges. No additional numbers to dial. The charges are about the same we use to pay and I dont have to remember the 22 numbers up front of the number I wanted to dial.

Plus you get caller ID, call message, etc... and those other fancy phone options included in the $49.

The wife can call her momma all she wants, just as long she doesnt invite her to come stay with us.

Looks like a good plan, BOE. May have to check that out, too. It won't work if you have DSL Internet, though.

Personally if I used the calling card thing I'd be smart and program the toll free number and PIN into speed dial, so that I just have to hit that speed dial, and then the number.

Well when I don't have the cell phone handy I use a thing Called onesuite.. it is www.onesuite.com

Kinda like a prepaid phone card.. you put like 10 bucks on your phone and it is set at 2.9cents a minute. You dial 800 number and then All you do (after it is set up correctly) is dial the number.. or you can even set up speed dial numbers through it.. I have been using this for over a year and it has worked wonderfully for me. I'd seriously look into it.. Yes you have to dial an 800# but you do not have to dial any pin after the fact it recoginzes your phone.. PM for questions..

Like CT, I just use my cell. I don't even have a LD provider on my home phone.
I only make a few LD calls a year anyway. Everybody I know or am related to lives here in town.
But when I lived in AK, that was a different story. Major monthly expense. :depressed: There were only 2 carriers to choose from up there at the time.

The ol' telemarketers call trying to sell me there long distance plans, I tell them I get free long distance with my cell phone, why do I want to pay you?
They keep rattling on about how I need to sign up with them for their great rates.
Thats about the time I hang up.
