Re: Any Shasta Lake reports?
The trout are full of coco pods, you will hook them up at 40 -50', The Kings
from 50' to 105' the biggest have come from 100' running rolled anchovies or herring blues. Also with Spin doctor dodgers and A-Tom-mix flies
The browns are down deep at 80' and holding tight. plenty of spotted bass
for the taking for those who like green carp.

Re: Any Shasta Lake reports?
Went out yesterday evening for a couple hours. They were pretty finicky. Threw all kinds of stuff at them from 30-150'. Marked a lot of fish, but only found 1 taker. Wind was a factor, it was blowing pretty good.

I went out today with my brother and cousin. On the water about 8 and off at about 3. We took home 9 Kings all between about 13-16 inches. They have put on size this summer already as earlier in the year they were all 10-13 inches. My previous 2 trips before this I had boated 2 big 22 inch 4 pounders but I could not find any today. They again loved the color pink, with most coming on pink hootchies or pink Apex's. Also caught em on watermelon Apex's and rolled bait. Fish came between 50 and 95 feet. We also caught and released probably about 10-15 trout. Seemed like it was hard to keep em off sometimes. We had a great time sorry about the pictures. All baits were covered in Pro Cure sardine and were trolled behind Shasta Tackle sling blades. Take care and tight lines. Some one show me how to fish Wickiup for Kokes and I will show you how to fish Shasta for Kings

Re: Any Shasta Lake reports?
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the reports. I may have to give it another go. Sounds like we were dragging some of the same stuff, they just like you better than me. I'll try some sardine scent, I was using predator and have had good luck with it at Shasta in the past. Send me a PM, I'd be happy to share some tips for Wickiup. It's a fantastic lake.

Re: Any Shasta Lake reports?
I was planning on going to Whiskeytown this morning, but after reading the Moose and 1sast's posts I changed plans and headed to Shasta.
Had a great morning catching kings and rainbows. Most were under 16" with one thick king 20". Used a variety of colors and sizes of apex behind either a reel image (sling blade style) or a Luhr Jenson #1 salmon dodger.
Caught them from 65 to 106'. Sardine outperformed the predator scent.
Anyone ever plug cut herring in the lake?
Good Fishing!

The big Kings are way down deep now 150' and better. If you can get your hands on Herring Blues they work the best. All the local places here can not or will not get them in. I was told you can get them in Sacramento and Portland , but by the time you pay over night it's about $ 8.00 per fish

Glad you got into the fish. This time of the year the water is really stratisfying and the fish are going into there preferred water temps. Whiskeytown I have heard has still been a little hit and miss with most, if not all the fish being caught having copepods. I am sure most of the trout you caught in Shasta were probably pretty furry but the Kings should have been very clean.

Moose, are "Herring Blues" the blue label Herring trays, if so I can have some brought down fresh in the next few days. If so are you running those plug cut, with head smashers, FBRs or helmets?

Any fish that lets me catch it looks pretty to me. I didn't have the faith that I was going to catch very many, so I wound up throwing them back. Would have had a nice cooler of kings had I known. Still a great day on the water.

Re: Any Shasta Lake reports?
blue label Herring trays that would be them. I gave up the salt water some years back. When the movie Jaws came out. I saw what that fish did to a 42' boat . But all the same methods and tackle work on any lake for Land locked Kings , Silvers
