Default Fly Fishing The Big C

Anyone out there heard of places to fly fish the Columbia in the Portland/Vancouver (or other local) area?

I'm talking steelhead...

They catch steelhead off various beaches in the area but that's done by plunking which keeps the lure in the strike zone for hours at a time. Not saying you'd be wasting your time. You'd have to find a spot where the fish are migrating within casting range, then be ready to cast your arms off. You want a place where the fish are forced close to the bank and slowed by lots of current. If your gonna give it a shot I'd try below Bonneville.

I've never fly fished the Columbia - seems like a guy would probably do a lot better on the tributaries (Sandy, Clackamas, etc.)

Closest I have come to fishing in the C is Herman Creek. It's a trib but you're pretty much in the river.

I have overheard some conversation about F.F. up at the flyshop at Welches. I am thinking Tanner Creek...
