Cabo?
Anyone ever go to Cabo that could recommend places to stay or places to avoid? My wife and I are thinking about a long weekend trip at the end of May, but neither of us have ever been.

Re: Cabo?
There's only one spot in Cabo to stay. The Hacienda- get a Cabana and reserve it NOW if it's not too late!

Re: Cabo?
How far is that place from all the nightlife action? They dont show too many pictures, which is unfortunate. The cabanas...tell me more. Beach or Dune? How much privacy do you have in those....it doesnt look like much. If you are in a Beach Cabana, what is the distance from the pool? Details....I need details.
Other places under consideration:
Finisterra
Melia San Lucas
Know anything about those?

Re: Cabo?
Walking distance to downtown (10 minutes around the Marina). VERY private (that's the whole thing about the Cabana's. Bar and pool was right above us. One of the best restraunts in Cabo in the Hotel. NO TIMESHARE BS! Landscaping is incredible (that's what makes the cabana's so private- you got you own little sand front yard - they are not close to the public beach section). Hotel serves breakfast on the beach every morning (nothing like wakin' up with your toes in the sand.
It's not glitz and hype- it's old and class!

Re: Cabo?
Cool Texan, The Melia is nice, Finistera is out on the point. A little furter walk than any of the Hotels alnog Medano beach. Melia is only about a 10 minute walk, most anything along Medaon beach is about the same. I have always stayed at Pueblo Bonito, I prefer the Blanco to the Rose'. If you want to be right in town there is Plaza Las Glorias, not on the beach but only minutes from the night life. Overlooks the Marina.

Re: Cabo?
I think we'd be looking for something nice, nice beach setting, good pool, close to the nightlife, romantic, etc. This will either be a baby-making expedition, or a relaxing weekend (if the baby-making is successful this month).
The beach cabana sounds cool...but we wouldnt want to wake up to see people camped out right in front of our place.

Re: Cabo?
We've had a timeshare at the Melia San Lucas for 14 years. Rooms are not bad, pool is real nice! Close to town/nightlife, restaurants and bars w/swim-up bar at pool. Sits on Medano Beach

Re: Cabo?
Cool Texan, for the things your looking for I would Recomend Peublo Bonito, nice beach, Very quiet at night with two Restaurants at the Blanco and a very nice French Restaurant at the Rose' 10 minute walk into town. If I were you I would go for a week, a long weekend down there just isn't enough. I prefer 10 days myself. Also for a nice eve you might try one of the Sunset Cruise's. The pirate ship is fun, it is an authentic sailing ship from the 1800's Stays moderately calm on board. The sunsets are awesome down there, Very romantic. If you want wild and fun try the Pez Gato, great group of guys that run it. No end of things to do down there. Fishing, ATV's, My Favorite is just relaxing on the beach.

Re: Cabo?
Hey Cool Tex- Pueblo Bonito is pretty romantic, you can eat on the beach with your toes in the sand but its a little further out of town than say the Finestera. Lots of exotic birds roaming about. Marde Cortez if you want inexpensive and in the middle of town($50 per night). Only drawback to the Marde Cortez is the coeds shaving their legs in the pool. Oh well you'll get what you pay for. Go in Sept or early Oct. (the fishing is hot!)

Re: Cabo?
Ok, help me out here. I understand that Finnestera is a bit out of the way. We want to be able to walk to restaurants, bars, clubs, etc.
So, Melia, Hacienda and Pueblo. Where do these sit in relation to the "things to do"? What's the scoop on the cabanas on the beach? Will we wake up some morning to find kids building sand castles in front of our place? Do all three of these places sit right on the beach? The same beach? Swimmable beaches? Shark issues? Scoop....I need scoop!
Feel free to email me directly at jwilliams@digimarc.com, or call my office at 503-495-4010.
Muchas Gracias! (practicing)

Re: Cabo?
CT- I told you that the cabanas are as private as you can get (didn't I ?). If you are looking for a Romantic spot - the Hacienda is the ONLY place to go (Well- there is the Twin Dolphin too - but it's out of town -gotta Taxi around). The only invasion of privacy you'll have is the hummingbirds flitting around.
If you don't stay there you will wish you did (walk around there if you don't - you'll see!)
From my previous post:
Landscaping is incredible (that's what makes the cabana's so private- you got you own little sand front yard - they are not close to the public beach section).

Re: Cabo?
Miss....is the beach swimmable there? What about proximity to restaurants, bars, etc?
Also, read my "D'oh, Help me make the call" poll for a new problem.
Dumb question...is your iFish name simply that of your boat, or does it in fact represent the gender behind the computer? I ask cuz I need/want some female opinions on my poll.

Re: Cabo?
Yes- finest swimming beach in the area - right in front on up to the Pueblo. Big flap going on cause they want to build a cruise ship pier in front of the Hacienda. I gotta get back down there before it's ruined!
Sheesh Tex- pay attention, I also told you in my first post that the Hacienda is a 10 minute walk to downtown around the Marina (and all the feeshing boats). It is THE closest beach hotel to downtown.
Just go... stop asking questions sheesh. Probably to late to get a res. anyway. You check yet?
I'm a guy, but you can call me Miss.
PS- send me and the wife to the Hacienda, you and the bud stay home. Problems solved arty:

Re: Cabo?
Jeff, a fishing charter would surely make the wife
super fertile. give it a go. There is some good fishing down there. You can bring back some tuna
and I'd be happy to help you eat it.

Re: Cabo?
Solmar is a real nice place to stay and is close to the action. Oh, there have also been several line class record fish caught right off the beach at Solmar. If ya go down there this time of year you must fish for Rooster Fish. Half day is all you will need cause when you catch one of these bad boys. Your muscles won't be in the mood for any more that day. Make sure they take you to where the big ones are. I went twice and the first Panga took me to the little ones (5 - 10 lbs). The second Panga started passing the spot where the first guy had me fish and I said "Hey, isn't this where the rooster's are?" He replied Yes, Senior, the bambino roosters, I will take you to their padre's house". I ended up getting a 50 pounder and lost one other that was bigger. I also had two other takes that I completely missed. All on a 4 hour trip.

Popeye/Miss B - You guys are killin' me.
Miss B (Mel): If you'd taken the statistics class that CT just finished, you'd know that it takes being told THREE times for the average person to learn something new.
CT: Not trying to dis' you for being average man. But I think you'd better check out the Hacienda... Mel might show up at your doorstep and serenade you in just a burgee

A picture's worth a thousand statistics! Sorry about the darkness- scan didn't turn out quite right. I think you get the pic.
Of course:
If you think this is more private and romantic. good luck.

Re: Cabo?
Another vote for the Hacienda Beach Resort(same as Miss B). My wife and I stayed their for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. It is not the newest resort, but it is romantic and has the BEST location in Cabo. Right on the beach (Their own private beach, no through traffic), good food in their restaurant, nice pool (with adult beverages), and a short walk to the heart of the city by walking around the marina. They also have water taxi access (to lover's beach), wave runner rentals, para sailing, diving and snorkeling adventures, and kayak rentals all right there on their beach.)
Be sure to check out Alaksa Airlines vacation packages as they have some smoking deals that inlcude stay at the Hacienda Beach Resort. That will also include ground transport from the airport so you don't have to rent a car.
No matter where you stay, be sure to eat at a restaurant called "La Brazil". It is awesome! All you can eat steak, ribs, chicken, etc. They come around and carve it off of the huge swords that just come off the grill. The best part is it is only like $15-20 a head.
Have a great time.

Re: Cabo?
Miss B,
Ok, not to beat this horse any more...but....those pictures look cool. Now where those lawn chairs are, I assume that is the door to your cabana, and not a doorway to multiple cabanas? As in, you have that entire area to yourself?

Re: Cabo?
Ok, I have a beach cabana on hold right now. Waiting to hear back from my wife for confirmation from her boss.
What we didnt think about was Memorial Day being that Monday. We'd fly that Wednesday, so hopefully the crowds will have died down.
Thanks for everyones help!!

Re: Cabo?
CT, you will ove Cabo, it is a great place. Plenty of excellent places to eat. We always liekd going to "The Office for Breakfast" right on the beach. Just up from where you are staying. Mama Romas on the Marina has excellent Italian food and the Pizza is Fantastic if you like thin crust. On top of all the great Mexican food down there to eat. I guess I better go eat lunch  I am hungry.

Re: Cabo?
CT,
Some Cabo Advice:
1. The only shark problems are in the form of timeshare salesmen. Have your guard up at all times. They are everywhere. Even in the airport, street corners etc. Somebody that's too friendly is probably trying to sell you a timeshare.
2. The Office is a must ! The Fiesta is great fun too reservations a must. Right on the Beach literally.
3. Romeo and Julietta's - Table side Caesar Salad
4.The Old Trailer Park - Great seafood but spendy.
5 La Brazil - Lured In is right on with this recommendation. Awesome food ! Especially if you're big on meat.
Cabo is awesome ! Have a great time !
