Securing Globugs
How do you guys secure the yarn on a globug?
For me... They always slide down and expose the thread... Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks
Greg

Little head cement on the thread wraps.

Re: Securing Globugs
I switched to GSP and cinch it down tighter than I probably should. Mine seem to stay put pretty well now.

Re: Securing Globugs
personally i don't use any cement on globugs... most of em are gonna get hung up and broke off before they unravel where i fish
i use floss to tie em... its pretty tough thread so three good wraps on the foam and you're usually pretty good
thats the other trick is to use fly foam instead of yarn... McFlyfoam comes in tons of colors and is way easier to use than yarn... it cinches down way smaller than yarn and when you cut a curve into it it pops into perfect spheres... use 4-5 strands

Re: Securing Globugs
I've used the McFlyfoam... Didn't like it as much as I like globug yarn... With MFF.... I can tie it so its secure... Its just yarn globugs that dont stay still.
Whats GSP?

Re: Securing Globugs
GSP- is a small diameter gel-spun thread
Many guys also use kevlar- again for the strength to diameter
A MINI drop of super glue (not zap a gap-(the thin stuff) can help them stay in place) on the wraps before you add the yarn can help secure it. Also if you add the head cement to the thread prior to the half-hitch, it can become less messy. Most guys use to much glue. Just like one of the previous threads, I really do not worry about it much as usually you lose them faster than you use wear them out.
Mcfly foam is much denser than Glo Bug yarn and therefore you need to use less material to get similar results

Re: Securing Globugs
I've found that the weight of the bobbin isn't enough to keep it tight. After I've cinched down the yarn, I keep the full tension on the thread while I pull back the yarn and make a few wraps on the shank.

Re: Securing Globugs
Go onto Google and look up 'fabric store pom pom' or something similar. You can buy pink (orange, red, chartreuse, etc) pom poms for about a penny each when you but a hundred. If you want 'eyes' in your eggs, use a red sharpie.
Slide one on a hook, add a drop of glue, repeat as necessary. If you want weight, put a brass bead on before the pom pom.

Re: Securing Globugs
First make sure you have a bit a thread base. For thread Uni big fly is my favorite so far. 2-4 pieces of glo bug yarn, cheaper the foam. Don't let up on the tention when adding another piece. Some wrap in front and behind their yarn as a way to really lock it in place. I am usually not too detailed, and you really only need to spend around 15-20 sec. per fly. Its down and dirty fishing, and you should expect to loose a few.

As with above, set a thread base down, then I do a half hitch before I tie the yarn on. Then once I wrap the yarn, I do the figure 8 twice.

Re: Securing Globugs
I use Kevlar on both the hook and to bind the yarn -- you can really wrap tight with it without breaking the Kevlar.

a few wraps on the shank then move to center and tie on glow bug yarn, as long as I prep the shank with a few wraps I've never had an issue at least before they are lost.
