Flushing salt from Redline 351
Hello, I got a new to me boat that has a Redline 351 hooked up to a Hamilton 212 jetpump. I know I'm not supposed to even bump the starter if the boat is out of the water. I'm not always able to back into a lake on the way home from the ocean to flush out the raw water system, so I have the following questions that maybe someone can help me with.
There is a hose connection fitting inline on the water hose that goes from the jetpump to the heat exchanger tank. I hooked up a hose to this fitting and water ran out the jet intake and the nozzle, but it didn't run out of the exhaust like I wanted.
What it this hose fitting for, possibly a sand trap ?
If I have the standard amount of water that comes from a hose, running out the nozzel and intake, is it still forbidden to start the boat to flush the exhaust of seawater ?
If I were to connect an inline hose fitting in the hose that comes out of the heat exchanger and Tee's to each exhaust manifold, would that allow me to flush the salt out and would that be a good idea ?
Do I need to flush the salt from the Jet as well ?
There are probably lots of folks wondering about these questions and I'm not sure flushing your system at any old boat launch is such a great idea anyway.
Thank you for any help.
