Default Day Before honeymoon!!! Steelhead

Well the day before we leave on our delayed honeymoon I decided to take a break from packing and getting ready for the Caribbean for the next 8 days. So I took my wife in search of her first ever steelhead. In about 2 hours flat she broke one off thinking that she was snagged, woops! Dang.. Then she stuck this little cutie hen.

We both decided that we would not miss the liquid sunshine for the next week. So keep dry, and we will soak up the sun for you guys and gals.

Oooooh the Caribbean, I'm jealous. Send us some pics.

I hope your planning on fishing the Steelhead challenge. That 2004 trophy would look pretty nice next to your 2003.

Enjoy your honeymoon

Skp, Yes.
Bobby! Sollie Smith elimanates my sled! Plus I have a springer trip that day, and it is also the Fishermans Sturgeon Derby.

We are off to Grand Caymen, Jamaca, Labidie, and Cozmel. Which one to fish? So little time.........

See you soon....

Talons,

My best freind went to the caymans last yr for spring break, which is right around this time of year. Excellent fishing! He chartered a boat amd came home with a 70lb Yellowfin Tuna, 40lb Wahoo, and a 15lb Mahi-Mahi. If you want, i can find out info about which boat he chartered. There are also some great tarpon fishing in the mangroves, and inlets. Find a Dock with a light on it, fish at 12am-3am with a shad rap rapala. They seem to hit your lure on the hour every hour. When Tarpon hit, they hit like no other, like a freight train. i recommend replacing the standard triblehook on the rapala to the best/ strongest hook you can find. This is because when i was in the carribean a few years back, i tarpon fished, one tarpon (estimated 75lbs) bent both of my trible hooks streight like a needle. needless to say the next day i replaced all my rapala hooks. One last thing, be sure to use at least 50lb test leader, because tarpon dont have teeth, and they jump very frequently, shaking their heads vigourously, causing friction between your leader and the very brittle- sand paper/ish jaws. I have lost a few tarpon because my leader wasnt strong enough. Hope all this helps. Have great trip!!
