Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
Been in the market for a new rig, usually a Ford guy but I found a VERY good deal on a 99' Dodge Quad cab 4X4 with the 318(5.2L)V-8. This rig is a 99'.
If any of you other fishers that have a silmilar rig can give me a rough idea how the gas mileage is on this particluar rig I'd appreciate it.

Re: Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
Mad Mikey, i'm guessing it's a 1/2ton only because i don't think they used the 318 in the 3/4 ton?, you might get about 14 mpg if light footed, not possitive on that but i'm sure i'm in the ball park, my 5.9 diesel gets 20mpg and that a 3/4ton loaded or not, the gas versions are not as good, Doug

Re: Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
Last summer, my wife & I went through the same thing. We went over the Dodge Quadcab, the Ford F-150 4dr, the Nissan 4dr pickup, and the Chevy Avalanche.
We climbed in and around each one checking functionality, fit, room and overall usefullness. I have to admit we did get some looks from the sales people because we were there to do more than kick the tires. We worked each function of each truck noting ease of use, practicality, and construction.
Once we got into the Avalanche and played around with it ~ and drove it. Nice. Very nice. So using that as the new standard, we rechecked the all other trucks. Only the Ford came close but still the Chevy's ride easily won.
We use the fold down midgate weekly and the removable covers have saved more than a couple loads from Home Depot and Costco(this is the rainy NW).
Initially, I hated the look of the Avalanche, but the pure versitility out weight that: The steps built into corners of the rear bumper; the side storage bins in the bed rails; the lights in the bed; the covers I can stand on while installed...
Seriously, check 'em all out and really work all the functions. There is a reason that it keeps getting truck of the year from different magazines, shows, and companies; The latest being the NRA's May 2003 American Hunter Magazine.
Oh, this is my first Chevy, too. I use to be a Chevy hater/Ford Rules guy.

Re: Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
My Dad has a 97 1500 shorty clubcab 4x4 with a 360 and auto (3.73 rear end) . He gets 14 in town, 17 on the hwy, and 12 towing the boat. Pulls his 18 foot boat just fine.
Seems to be a pretty good truck.

Re: Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
Thanks for the responses. DK, yes, it's a half ton, SB. My hangup is do I want more room or greater mileage? One of the car sites said it would get as high as 17-20 mpg which would be fine by me.
However, what you actually get and what the stickers say are usually very different. 14mpg would be acceptable if I kept my little rig for long trips I guess.

Re: Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
Mikey,
I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.8L V-8. I have had it almost 2 years now. Love the truck. As far as gas mileage goes it averages somewhere around 12 to 14 in town and between 15 and 18 on the highway depending on how fast I push it. Mine is a full-time 4WD so I think that hurts my mileage a little.
Steve

Re: Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
I have a 1996 short 4x4 dodge w/318. Best I ever got was close to 16 on a trip to Ca. Never checked it towing.

Re: Dodge Quad Cab gas mileage?
Once again, thanks for the responses. Steelie Steve, you brought up a good point. I have not actually driven or seen this rig in person yet, just got the stats. I'll have to find out if it is full time 4wd or not. I don't think I would like that, not necessary for my driving habits.....
It is a 5 speed so I would think it is probably not full time 4WD(?)

id like a 318 minitruck, i saw a buildup for 400hp with just ~1,500 worth of parts
