what digital camera to buy??
Well, with a kid on the way and being a guy who loves to take fishing pics too, I'm in the market to buy a digital camera, possibly tonight. The dough is burning a hole in my pocket. My budget is about 450-500 including extra memory.
Anyone out there have a good choice that they feel is a great all around camera. I want some minor video audio capabilities. All that cool stuff that Wyatt will do that we think is just SO neat!! Gotta capture it all. Any positive.neg feedback would be appreciated. Sales guys will sell you who knows what.
Thanks in advance.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
Canon S30. End of story.
Got ours 6-8 months ago...and love it. Its relatively compact, FAST picture to picture, reviews pictures fast, does everything you need.
Go to a store and compare it to something like a Coolpix camera. See how quick you can snap a pic then snap another. Review the pics and go through them all...the Canon will blow away the Coolpix.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
I'm an Olympus fan.
I used an Olympus D-340R for several years, and am now upgrading to a C-720 with 8X optical zoom. I looked real hard at the C-4000 also with a 3x zoom and 4 Mpixels, but decided the zoom would be more useful to me than an extra Mpixel, (C-720 has 3Mpixels). Got a good deal online and should be here real soon...

Re: what digital camera to buy??
I bought myself...er I mean the wife a kodak LS443 for christmas and have nothing but good things to say about it...GREAT pics has video capability too, bought it for 449? at staples...do a consumer report search on it.Go to a store and check em out... My neighbor has one too. oh and also a no brainer to use and to share thru email and such has lots of functions too. I am wondering why I don`t hear more on these. there was same topic awhile ago and no one mentioned the kodaks. Great camera tho, we are very happy with it.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
Canon is a good choice......they use AA size batteries and Compact Flash, which is about the most universal type of memory cards. Stay away from brands that use proprietary rechargeable battery packs, as those are 1)usually spendy and 2) if you dont have an extra, your out of luck.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
Look for one that also has a video cable that'll allow you to view pics directly from camera to TV. Makes it real easy to pick out the winners without going to the computer first. Good luck!

PS: Might want to consider a 2 megapixel camera for a couple of hundred and get an inexpensive video camera to keep track of baby's adventures.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
I have the Nikon Coolpix 775, the 2.1 mega pixel version. That model is obsolete, but the newer one will be about the same. About $250, and great camera. All you need for good pictures - you've seen them in my posts.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
Well, bought the camera over the weekend. Went with the sony cyber0shot. 3.2 Mega pixels.
Has video/adiao, takes lithium batteries, TV plug in. 2 memory sticks, including 128mb stick, carrying case, the whole enchilada. I'll be spending some time figuring it out today, like it so far. Thanks all for the advice you've posted.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
I own the Olympus 720 --3 megapixels with awesome zoom -- OfficeMax is having a "Friends and Family" event on th 26th -- the camera will be $299 (normally $449) -- It does require a special coupon -- any one interested e-mail me and I can make arrangements ---

Re: what digital camera to buy??
frogpond,
Sony cyber-shot DSC-P8. It was 399.00 at best buy, they have a price match plus 10% if you find if cheaper anywhere else. I bought a case, and the 128MB memory stick too, sony's is a little pricier at 70 bones. Love it so far, movies are way cool.

Re: what digital camera to buy??
We just got our first, a Canon, based on advice from the paper's photographers...The ELPH series is outstanding. Haven't used this enough to know a lot, though...also got a print maker and other accessories, so while the camera was only 499, the rest of it jacked the bill to 816. Still worth it, though...

I'll have that video after this weekend, come hell or high water. Mt buddy has been hitting the W and putting the hurt on them. Going to do a video of the mrs. with the big belly to show all my pals back east. It's a cool little gadget.
