Default Moning Bite Wickiup July 3rd

Just got back from a mornings Kokanee fish at Wickiup, thought I'd fill you in, in case anyone was planning a day trip. First and foremost, Fall river road has been stripped of all pavement for about 11 miles, basically from where you cross the Deschutes to the turn off to Pringle Falls. The road is in very poor condition in places, I suggest an alternate route. Now for the fishing report, and let me stress I'm not a wickiup expert, this is just my mornings experience. Decided to concentrate on jigging, just got a bunch of new jigs, and was determined to try them out, even if I wasn't catching anything. Started with fishing just off the bottom, couldn't buy a bite, and from what I saw of the other boats jigging, not many being caught. Decided to change tactics after marking a few small schools suspended at about 20 ft in 50 ft of water. targeted them and quickly had my first hit of the day, but no solid hook up. Not to long after, finally boated a nice chuncky, solid 17 incher. Unfortunatly, I had made a promise to be off the water by 10 and back home, so it was off to the ramp. So if your planning the trip, trolling in that 20 ft level, out in 50ft of water, would probably get you some nice ones. There were a few guys still fishing bait, who also picked up a few fish. Good luck, and if you go let us know.

Don,

Thanks for the report. Too bad about the road. Which jig did you get your fish on? When I was there earlier in the year I couldn't buy a fish on jigs! Looks like you might have figured it out!

Pink and White, I have the most confidence in that combo, never seems to let me down.
