Default Lava Lake - any brookies, or mostly 'bows?

Hi
I'm planning to hit Lava Lake this weekend. Haven't fished it before....I have heard some of the high lakes have a good stock of brookies..is Lava Lake one of those?

Any techniques more effective for brookies?

Should be a great week! I am loving the sun...summer's here.

I just got back from fishing Little Lava and Big Lava for 4 days.. I spent most of my time from shore, but from the reports, fishing was on FIRE 2-3 days prior to us showing up. While we were there the fishing was very bland. There are a decent amount of brookies in the lakes though. They're extremely selective fish. From what I've noticed they enjoy being in cover more so than Rainbows. BRING YOUR BUG SPRAY. The mosquito's will ruin your entire trip if you do not properly prepare for some serious bugs.

If it's brook trout you're after, try Elk Lake, right up the road from Big Lava. Nice lake and has some nice sized brookies available. The water is very clear, so you'll need to go with a light leader.

Floating worms off the bottom works quite well at Elk.

Just got back from a trip camped at Elk Lake. did two little fishing trips in both elk and big lava. Elk has a ton of fish, mostly small. Caught a number of kokanee and brookies, and had a couple brooking in the 12-13 inch range. As far as Lava goes, if anyone was there Saturday and Sunday ( I was the crazy kid that paddled all the way accross the lake in a float tube ( I got sunburned and wore out) Anyways.... I did catch some beauty rainbows, and usually catch a lot of fat and healthy bows there. I have never caught a brookie in that lake, but wouldn't doubt they could be in there!

Funny I was just talking to a coworker today about this subject.Back in the 70s and earlier it was known for its brookies.Great sizes also, but when they treated it for chubs I don't think they were reintroduced. I haven't caught one in many years. Crane has some nice brookies and I used to do well in Little Cultus.
