Adobe Acrobat 5.0 help please
I have spent the last 3 hours going through web-pages, support articles, manuals and forums. I still can't find the answer I need. I am converting a Word 2000 document that has figures created with ArcView (jpeg), Corel (jpeg), Sigmaplot (paste special), Excell (paste special)to a .PDF file using Adobe Acrobat 5.0 through Word 2000. Everything is fine except the figues saved as jpegs from ArcView won't show up. The captions from Word are there and the page is there, just no figure. The Corel jpeg shows up so I opened the jpegs in Corel and "saved as' a Corel jpeg and it still won't work. If I save it as a GIFF it workd but the quality is yucky because it now 8-bit instead of 24-bit. How come one jpeg converts fine and the other two don't? Size? Help?

Re: Adobe Acrobat 5.0 help please
Try converting the image to TIFF, and then back to JPEG. Hopefully you won't get too much image degradation in the process.

Re: Adobe Acrobat 5.0 help please
I tried the TIFF thing too and still yucky. I ended up bringing the DPI down to 250 from 300 and it worked and while it isn't as good as the original, it is better than the other tries. It will just have to do for now. Thanks.

Ewww - just when I thought I might know the answer!
If you are using "PDF Writer" you might try "printing" to a Postscript file and then using Adobe Distiller.
Just one more guess ... worth every cent it cost.

Re: Adobe Acrobat 5.0 help please
It is a free program, just with a minor annoyance is all. I've had problems with pdf files I've made from OpenOffice on Linux not being recognized as pdf files by Windows, so it's not perfect either. I often have to right click and choose "open with" and pick Acrobat Reader. I haven't had the same problem with pdf files made with PDF995.

Re: Adobe Acrobat 5.0 help please
That's weird, happybrew. The file that wouldn't directly open in Windows had a pdf extension? I know that Linux sometimes won't put that extension on there natively. Otherwise, it tends to be pretty good.
Must have been Windows' fault.

Re: Adobe Acrobat 5.0 help please
A very easy way to make pdf documents is with PDF995. It's a free download from here.
You just select it as one of your printers, then print your document. It will then ask you to "Save As", and it will create a pdf file for you. It does have an annoying sponsor page that comes up, but it's free. You can pay a fee to get rid of the sponsor page. It will convert anything you can print into a pdf file
