Default Timothy Lake Crawfish

I'm thinking about a day trip, 7/4 or 7/5 with my wife, son 3.11yrs, and daughter 1.3yrs for a day of fishing on the water (drift Boat) and also drop a few crawfish traps. Many questions I have as I've never been to TL. I'm a native Southern Mississippi boy born and raised 10 miles east of Biloxi so you could say I know a bit about cooking and eating Crawfish. Where is the best location (and Depth) to drop the Crawfish pots? What pots/traps work the best? Also any lure/bait/location advice for the little fishes would be appreciated.

When i went up there one of my friends spend a good hour right off shore just pickin them up and throwing them in a bucket. We had 35+, so maybe close to the shore would be a good spot for one of your traps

Thanks SafariSam!! I'm clamoring to get the son and daughter out on the water for the first time and thought Crawfish and trout was the best way to have a load of fun.

we dropped them on the opposite side of the lake near Meditation point in about 12-15ft of water last weekend and picked up quite a few of them..... as far as bait goes I would use one can of chicken/liver wet cat food and a half an ear of corn ( cut each kernel so the juices can get out ) . should work like a charm.

A guy I used to know always would tell me how he would go wade the shallows at night with a flashlight and catch tons of them.... Good luck...

After fishing keep all the guts and heads, put them in a mesh bag with some line tied to it. Toss it in shallow water at night and use a flashlight. Then just pick em up and toss them in a bucket.

I was up there last week - Wed night thru Sun morning. We had 5 traps in the water and used fish heads and some Shad that I had caught for this purpose. We averaged 35+ per pot over nights and around 20ish per pot during the days. I have tried cans of cat food and tuna and they work okay but found the dead stinky fish work the best. Used to toss my pots from shore but had too many raided by drunk campers so now I use milk jugs and place them in about 10-20 feet of water 25-75 yards from shore. I always launch raft or boat from pine point boat ramp and drop pots along shoreline along the pine point camp ground. However, I have seen them all over the place there near the shorelines...good size lake so lots of room to place your pots.

I was up there this past weekend, used trout we caught and a hot dog in each trap. We threw from the bank near the Oakfork inlet in a rocky section and we had 15 or so for every two hours soaked. Happy hunting.
