I bought a drift boat this past year and was going to take my dad steelheading on the Deschutes this September. I've never floated this stretch so I'm looking for some advice. I've driven the road a thousand times and it looks as though there are only 2 "rapids" in this stretch. Neither one look bad from the road but is there anything special I need to know about floating this section? Which side of the island do you take below beavertail.....the west side looks like it could be a little skinny when the flows are low. Anything I should know or things you could point out to me? Just hit the "V" on both sets of roller coasters and I should be ok?

Thanks
river right through Cedar Island (it is a pick fest on the other side but runnable). The rapids above windknot far river right down the v. the rest is a piece of cake. Have fun.

Thanks. Which is windknot? Is it the one right below cedar island or the second set of rapids?
It is the one you call the second set of rapids. If you go to http://www.boaterpass.com and click the river link at the top of the page it will show you a list of maps on the left side. Click on map 7 as that is the section of river you are floating. You will see they only list one set of rapids between Beavertail to Macks and that is the one Sam is talking about. Enjoy and have a great time but remember it can get crowded that time of year.
